2. Thanks so much to Susanne and everyone who responded so quickly about Big Woods Cemetery. Olivet Cem Michael (1871-ca 1946) married 1) Lena Brucher (buried Big Woods Cem) 2) Edna Dietz Gill Mary married Henry J. Plum in 1901 Barbara married Henry C. Kresser in 1897 Nicholas (1880-1960) married Ella. Both are buried in St. Joseph Cem. Frank M. (ca 1882-1927) married Matilda Gottwaldt. Both buried in Mt. 2. It isn't listed with others on my site at Cemeteri es in Kane County, IL However, Big Woods is usually referred to as the area between Batavia and North Aurora - Aurora, so that would be my first guess as to general location. Maybe the folks at Batavia - River Hills Memorial Park, 1650 S. River, Batavia, IL 60510 630/879-7400 can offer insite if no one on the list responses.

    3. Hi list I'm new to this list. I would like to post a query about JENNE's in Kane county in the 1860's My g grandmother, Joanna Jenne was born in IL in 1865. I have no known oparents or siblings for her, although I have hunted for over 10 years. Family tradition said her mother was named Belle. It's remotely possible she had a brother or a half-brother named Ezra. that's all the information I have on her birth. Her parents were probably born ca 1840 or thereabouts. I know she married Sylvester Key in Washington county, AR in 1882 and died in Adair County, OK in 1939. Does anyone have a clue as to who her parents might be. I will be forever grateful for ANY hint. Regards Bonnie in Idaho

    2. I located my 1871 Atlas. It appears that the property where the gravel pit I was thinking of is now located -- on Rt 31 at McLean between South Elgin and St. Charles -- was then owned by a J. H. ELMORE. Scanning the Elgin business listings I don't see a Reser Gravel company listed, but this is an abbreviated book.

    2. What nice work you do. I can't thank you enough for this information. You are a blessing. Thank you thank you. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I have a map book of the Chicagoland area including Kane Co. It's a little bit old (1988) but it shows gravel pits (no name on the map) in quite a large area in basically a northeast to southwest direction in both Kane Co and Cook Co. There are pits on the southeast corner of South Elgin in a triangular area roughly defined by Hwy 25, Gilbert St and Middle St. Kitty corner from the intersection of Middle St and Hwy 25 there is a large area of gravel pits which straddle the border with Cook County. This is a square area roughly defined by Hwy 25, W. Bartlett Rd, Gifford Rd and the northern edge of the square is roughly defined by the Elgin city limits line which runs concurrent with the southern edge of Bluff City Cemetery. Historically it would appear that these gravel pits are serviced by the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The gravel pits near South Elgin are apparently serviced by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and also possibly by the Illinois Central Railroad. In other words these are the tracks which run through the respective gravel pits. You might check Yahoo Yellow Pages for gravel pits in this area. Hope any of this is helpful to you.
