    3. Chris, Can't comment on whether or not Dundee was largely a Prussian community, but my husband's family are all of German descent, almost all from Pommern or the former Prussia. All immigrated in the 1860's and 1870's. Some settled in Dundee, notably some of our Hopp family, but most ended up in Elgin or South Elgin...surnames Hopp and Volstorff. 3. Hello Listers, I am new to the list and I really need some help. I am looking for members of my mothers side of my family. If there is anyone on this list who is researching Hefners, or is named Hefner or knows someone who is named Hefner would you please contact me even if you don't know the names below? My name is Evelyn Jumper Crowe, my mother and father were Willie Rose Hefner and Charley Jumper. Willie's parents were Tom Hefner and Pearl Farrow. Willie's brothers were Crim, Lewis, Seal (John), Belton, Willie's sisters were Donnie, Annie and Bobbie We know that Crim died in Aurora Kane Co. Illinois in 1978, so some of his children or grandchildren may still be in that area. Crim's wife's name was Savanah Balwin. We believe he had a daughter named Elisabeth. I grew up in Missouri and my families were from Mississippi. We believe the Hefners may have been from Illinois. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Evelyn

    3. Hi everyone, I am new to this list. I am looking for information on the ancestors of my grandfather, Carl Augustus Rosenthal, born in St. James MN on February 18, 1904. His parents names were Otto Emil Rosenthal and Mary Hubb. Otto and Mary had four other children, Arthur, William, Ruth, and Alice. After Mary Hubb's death, Otto married Ruth "Rudy" Hubb. Together they had another 5 children: Mary, Joanne, Emil, Franklin, and Marty. Sometime after my grandfather's birth they moved to Illinois, eventually ending up in Kane County. Does anyone have any information on this line? This has been a brick wall for me for the last year. Thank you, Mary>:-) ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! Try it today - there's no risk! 2. My grandfather, Charles Manahan was born in Dundee in November 1869. I have done no research on that line, but it is my understanding that his mother's maiden name was Rosenthal. Charles was living in Minneapolis in 1890, nine years before he married my grandmother. Maybe there is a connection here somewhere! 3. I have a picture of The First Baptist Church. I believe it was the on that WAS located at 96 E Wilson St. The pic was taken in the 1930's. I asked several people while I visited the area a few months ago but no one could identify it. I also checked church books with pictures but this one was not in there. Several persons in my family were members of the E Wilson Church and I would like to find where their records may be stored. Can anyone help? I would be glad to email the picture to anyone interested. The picture reminds me of Wrigley Field Stadium but with large letters over an oval, concrete brim, surrounding the front, "First Baptist Church". __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. [ILKANE] Kane Co. land records held needed...still
    2. K. O'Brien
    3. Hi, all. Last year I posted a message asking for help in researching the Kane Co. land records. At that time, no on was able to help, so I thought I'd try again. The Kane Co. land records office in Geneva told me that research must be done in person, and I'm not able to travel to Illinois just to look at the land records. This is the first land office I've found that doesn't accept inquiries by mail. I am requesting a lookup in the grantee index that would include the years 1855-1857, during which time my g-g-grandparents, William and Rosanna O'BRIEN, bought land in Batavia. I would like a copy of the record of the purchase. I don't know the legal description of the land, but it should be listed in the purchase record and this should lead to finding a record of the land's sale, which I am also looking for. (The grantor index can be checked for 1860 to about 1880). These people 'disappear' after the 1860 census and I'm hoping finding out when the land was sold may provide some clues. Please email me if you can help, especially if you've done land record research before. Thank you. - K. B. I think you may very well have found my grandparent's graves, although it will take some more investigation to be sure. I do not recognize the Costello children (probably actually grandchildren) who are buried there, but it was a large family. I would appreciate it if you would make an "on site" inspection if you can find the time when you return to the DeKalb/Maple Park area. And if there are gravestones and you can take a picture or two I'd be happy to underwrite the cost (maybe one of the church as well, since it must be near). It's somewhat puzzling to me that the church's former pastor did not mention the existence of the cemetery. I think I'll write the present one and see what he can tell me. Again, my thanks.
