Bob, suggest you spend a day at the State Historical Library in Madison (at the bottom of State Street on University Campus) with one of the specialists there. They can help you sort out the discrepancies. The library has the second largest collection of family histories in the world, and I have found many a connection there. The library's holdings are worldwide, not just Wisconsin, although the Wisconsin section is outstanding. Hi Jim, Thus far from what I have gotten it was on section 3 of St Charles township. I stopped by the police station when I was in St Charles Tuesday and talked to an officer of thirty years experience. He says that section 3 is along the east and west side of the river at Five Islands. Rice Fay, and others, had meetings in Rice's home there which led to the formation of a Baptist church. I don't know if that church still exists. Brother Elijah had not yet moved to Elgin and was in Racine Wisconsin founding a Baptist church there. The little settlement Rice Fay lived in was called Fayville, and had their own post office for a time. I don't know yet if it was on the east or west side of the river. It may be that Fayville became part of South Elgin in time, or possibly St Charles.......I need to look at a plat map, preferably from about 1840. Rice Fay built "a substantial stone dwelling" which was later occuppied by the Keatins and known as the Keating house. I have not been able to locate it, if it even exists anymore. I am tenetively planning a trip to St Charles tommorrow, to speak with the researcher/archivist at the historical society. These would be very old records I would be looking for and I don't think many survive to today. Any ideas on what cemetary they might be buried in? Dear ILKANE subscribers, I am doing research projects on three brothers, Rice Fay, Elijah Fay, and Harrison K Fay who migrated from New England in the 1830's to northern Illinois and Wisconsin, prepatory to putting up webpages on each one at http://fayfamily.org, and am looking for sources and suggestions for further information. Rice Fay in particular is assoiciated with the early history of Kane county. This is what I know so far and it may not be 100% accurate yet. Rice Fay founded Fayville in about 1833 located on section 3 of St Charles township. He was also postmaster there and was among the founders of the Baptist church there. He built the large stone dwelling that was later occuppied by the Keating family. What are the best sources for information on these activities.....old maps, original documents, early histories etc. Is there any historical society etc that is open on weekends that I should use. Rice Fay apparently moved to Elgin in about 1853......but I have no information on him there. I don't know when he died, who his descendants were etc yet. Any ideas for weekend sources for this information? Brother Elijah Fay moved a lot, and is much harder to trace. According to the 1840 census he was in Burnett township, Dodge county Wisconsin. According to the history of a Baptist church in Racine Wisconsin he was in Racine and founded a church there in 1840. According to a third source, which is known to contain errors, Elijah moved by his brother Rice in ELgin (or St Charles) in 1840. I definitely have Elijah voting in the election in Kane county in 1846. I have an enormous amount of information on Elijah before 1840, but have little after his move to Wisconsin in 1837, and some of it is contradictory. Suggestions or information on him would be helpful. For anyone that may be interested in this family, there was a third brother Harrison K Fay who was the first pioneer settler of Mount Pleasant township, Racine county, Wisconsin, and subsequently owned a lumber company in northern Wisconsin. Any ideas, sugestions, or comments anyone? Thanks, Bob Fay Sturtevant, Wisconsin ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
I don't know if I am in the right place to post this. If not my apologies. The below person is my grandfather. I am desperately trying to learn his mother's maiden name. Her first name was Emilie. If anyone has access to a census record for 1877-1890 in Glen Ellyn ,I would really appreciate a look up for this elusive family. Parents were Karl & Emilie Domrose. One of his older brothers, Herman was also born in Glen Ellyn in 1877. There were 3-4 siblings in between. Would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. Cathie Paul Karl b 1888, Feb 28 in Glen Ellyn, ILL. died 11 Dec. 1935 in Cook county, Chicago, ILL.
