Kelly, I don't know if they are the same family or not. I have had no luck thus far in finding info on the Hacker/Lang families. I will be going SOON to Elgin's Gail Borden Library to see what might be there. Wish me luck. I'll check out that cemetery, too. Tom, I just returned from Ireland and saw many Costellos in the cemeteries in southern Kilkenny and northern Waterford counties. In reading the gravestones, I found there were many marriages between the families Costello, Walsh, Quinn and Phelan. Who was who gets really tricky, as names were repeated often among the families. I have a few Costellos in my family tree, although they are a generation forward from yours, may be related. Patrick Costello, b. 1850 Mullinavat, KILK, Ireland married Karen Walsh, b. 1860 Crystal Lake, McHenry Co, IL. (both d. McHenry) and their children. While in Ireland, I learned the name Costello likely came to Waterford in the 1700s from Italy when the trade routes opened. This info just in case you are looking for connections in Ireland. Gail Borden Library in Elgin has complete card catalogs (and I assume microfiche) for the Elgin Courier and the Watch Company news (Watch Word??). The card catalogues list all birth, death and marriage info, so if you are looking for this type of info, searching the actual newspapers isn't necessary - very handy. Don't know if they will do look-ups for you. At 05:31 AM 10/16/00 -0500, you wrote: >Does anyone know where one can search old copies of the Elgin Courier? Michelle, I was recently in the West Dundee Twp Cemetery and there are several Haackers who I believe are related to my g-g-g-grandmother, Sophia Haacker, who m. Martin Holtz. Their son, Joachim Holtz, married Johanna Lange. They are buried in W. Dundee Twp Cemetery as well. Is this the same family you are researching? Kelly BTW, there are several variations of the spelling for Haacker on the stones. At 06:25 PM 10/14/00 -0500, you wrote: >Could you please look up the surnames of HACKER and LANG(E)? Good day listers, Anyone on this list researching SPIESS? Probably of the SPIESS family that owned a Department Store in Elgin, Kane County, IL. I believe I have found my great great grandmother's family [KATHARINA SPIESS] in DOLGESHIEM and EIMSHEIM, Hessen, Germany. She married KASPAR BITTINGER in Eimsheim. My great grandfather, PHILLIP BITTINGER immigrated to Elgin, IL, married CAROLINA FIERK and raised a family there. Family lore had it, that my line was related to the SPIESS family, but couldn't prove that until the other day when I found on LDS film the connection. Please contact me if there's an interest. Thank you, Beverly Zanon Mack Researching: BITTINGER SPIESS FIERK WISSER

I wanted to wait until the flood waters receded before asking DEBS if she could look up the surname HOPP in the Kane County Cemetery Book...your help is sincerely appreciated. Thanks, Lisa Hopp
I have a gr-gr-gr. grandfather with the first name of Bateman. I have found records on another grandfather named William, with using the name Bill, and a grandmother named Catherine, who used Katie on most of her documents. Does anyone know if there is another name someone named Bateman might go by? debs
I don't have a birthdate for Erastus Allen - I would assume that he was about the same age as Eliza but I don't know. They were married in Kane Co. but she is buried in Minneapolis next to her first husband. I don't know where Erastus is buried.
