Thanks for the responses on this. I'm still new at the genealogy thing and tend to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off not knowing where I should start my search. My Aunts names were CARLIE ANN EDWARDS, and KATHERINE LUELLA EDWARDS. Neither one ever married, so no need to look for any other surnames connected to them. My Mom knows one taught in the Austin neighborhood in Chicago. On their death cert. it states they were retired school teachers, and under the name of employer it says Chicago School System. I think one was like a special-ed teacher because my Mom remembers when she had troubles with something one ( I think Carlie) would tutor her. Her sister teased her and called her a retard...having to go to the "retard class"...( no offence people, just quoting my mom ) debs
Hi all, There are a few researchers who just don't have the time to put their data on the web. I just made a page for Connie at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cribbs/connie1/ so that she could show her research online. I'd be glad to put a family tree page together for anyone who needs one for free. Let me know off-list at [email protected] Let's share and promote free research online! Bill -- GREAT BOOKMARKS! Debs: There is a state teachers association ... maybe they would be able to help. Also I have seen books on the subject of schools of certain eras in given locations. Maybe Amazon.com could help? Good luck. Also, does everyone know you can download your genealogy for free at World Connect Tree at Rootsweb? It's free and you can download your genealogy with or without your notes, and you can pick and choose which information to have put up on the site. They also have a wonderful search engine to help others find researchers who are working on the same lines so you can coordinate efforts. It only takes a couple of minutes to load your tree. You do need to have a genealogy program with Gedcom, but most programs do, so that shouldn't be a problem for many!!!! happy Hunting!!! Bobbie

Dear Deb, I thought I would wait until you had a rest but I see there are many with ties to Kane County. Would you be so kind as to look up the following: Short EL2,EL3,EL4,BC,MTH. Thank you, Rick Short
The three Hopp brothers all had sworn naturalization papers that stated emigration from Germany and landed in New York...Christ (my husband's gr-gr grandfather) on Oct. 16, 1871...Joachim on June 19, 1872...and John had no dates filled in on his papers. Thanks for the thought, though. Next step is to view the passenger names, ship by ship for that date and if not found, then search a couple days previous and after the date given on the natl pprs. Many times the ship came into port a day before or after the date registered on the passenger list. If the ship passenger list your ancestors was filmed, it'll be on the roll of film. What would cause a list NOT to be filmed would be damaged beyond recognition or it was lost or destroyed. Beverly
Hi Beverly. Thanks for the heads-up about the microfilm. In the Kane County courts there is a William Coffin in late 1860's. Can anyone shed light on this? Any Coffin's family memebers still in Kane County? Please email me thanks Glenda [email protected]
