It has maps of all the states and territories with county lines for every ten year period when the federal census was done. Very useful book. Bob Trapp
There is a OC Sabin on page 96 of the census. I don't know what township that would be in. Sorry. Judy
Is there a Kane County 1870 census extraction? Looking for an entry mentioned in the IL census index about William Mead, b NY betw 1782-1784 supposedly in Big Rock in 1870 [hopefully with family!] or any other Meads, of course. Gilda
Gilman IL is 13 miles west of Watseka in Iroquois County. Gilman, Elwood, and Arrowsmith are not really that close to each other. Gilda
I bought an Illinois Atlas and Gazzetteer for 16.95 at a Staples a couple years ago. It shows every little road in the whole state. The train tracks east of Bloomington go by the few streets of Ellsworth and Arrowsmith still. These two are 3 or 4 miles apart. Ellsworth is 10 miles east of Bloomington's southern city limits and Arrowsmith on east of that. Along the tracks east of Bloomington are dots for Brokaw, Holder, and Padua, too, which are probably grain elevators or something. Look in a zipcode book for Elwood. One is in Will County and one in Vermillion County. My mother was born at her grandmother's a few miles from where the family lived. The address would be different. Maybe that's what happened. Be glad to do any lookups. I live in LaSalle Co and know the northern half of the state fairly well. Gilda
Would anyone on the list have access to the above cemetery book done in 1990s by walking the cemeteries and could look for the SABIN surname in the index.... your help greatly appreciated.... thank you
Would anyone on the list have a copy of this reference and could look for the SABIN surname... your help greatly appreciated.... thank you
Willard and Caroline (Lovett) Sabin moved from Boone Co IL to the Elgin area in Kane Co IL - lived there abt 1864-1869... then migrated to Kansas about 1869/1870. Believe a daughter, Sarah Catherine Sabin - age 3, died in Elgin, also have a photo of small school in So Elgin, IL that Sabin children attended... associated families - Dedrick, Shedden, Lovett, Whiting. Any help with locating cemetery records for the Elgin area or anything about the Sabin surname greatly appreciated..... thank you.
There was an Ellsworth about 2/3 of the way to Arrowsmith from Bloomington on the R.R. This comes from an old 1870's map book that shows all the IL counties and townships as well as the individual sections with owners. It is not indexed but if I come across anything else I will let you know. Hello, Debs I have a very dilapidated Atlas published sometime in the 1890's, and McLean Co. seems to have the same boundaries as in a 1999 Rand McNally road atlas. This old atlas shows railroad lines and stations, but not roads. I could not find the towns you mention other than Bloomington, but I wonder if they might be township names. I looked in neighboring counties, also. Ruth Leathers - Colorado (but grew up in DeKalb CO.)

Thanks for the reply. My mom said that Arlene and Marlene were Clifford's cousins. He only had one brother and one sister-Clayton and Lucille. They did live on a farm, although I'm not just for certain where it was. Mom said it was near Wheaton. >From: grace w gathman <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [ILKANE] Frisks, Johansson's, Cassidy's, Kronings & Gaedes >Date: Thu, 2 Nov 2000 22:15:54 -0600 > >I was in high school with Clifford Kroning and his twin sisters Arlene >and Marlene. Hi All, Just returned from a trip to Batavia, IL to see my family, (mama, brothers, sister) and I was privileged to attend a meeting of the Kane County Gen. Soc. What fun! A really nice group of people! We heard a great speaker give us tips for preserving photos. I met and talked with Sue Lye, Pres. Gen. Soc. and Marilyn Robinson, Town Historian and former teacher. I have 3 of Marilyn's books on Batavia and address for purchase, if you're interested. There's a great one for elementary students. I was also able to purchase a copy of the EAST BATAVIA CEMETERY INDEX (I think one whole section is my ancestors). The INDEX contains first and last names, date of birth and death, and location in the cemetery. I would be happy to do look-ups for you. (evenings.) Marilyn also showed me around the NEW Research Center on the ground floor of Batavia's Depot Museum located right on the Fox River. Very beautiful and impressive! Mr. Wm. J. Wood, well-known Batavia historian, and former principal and teacher, was also there and we reminisced. What a great city Batavia is - so beautiful this time of year. My sis from CA and I took a long walk around town and some of the sidewalks were buried under maple and oak leaves, so we "swished" our way through them like we did when we were kids. I hope you all can visit your home town soon. It was really wonderful!!!!!! Blessings on you, Linda Hoover Garrison [email protected]
My mom's family is mostly all from the Aurora, West Chicago, Geneva areas. If anyone knows of any of these people, or could help me out by finding their birth/death/marriage licenses, I would be greatful. Please email if there are any connections. The Kronings: My Grandfather was Clifford Herrman Kroning, born in 1923 in West Chicago. Clifford died in 1996 in Soldiers Grove, WI. His father was Harry Emil Kroning born 1892 in Winfield Twp and died in 1968, maybe in Aurora. Clifford's mother was Erna Lena Gaede. Harry's parents were Herrman Kroning and Emma Seehafer, both born in Germany, and immigrated to this area of Illinois. The Gaedes: Erna Lena Gaede was born 1897 in Wayne Twp, and died in 1990 in Jennings Terrace Nursing Home in Aurora. Her parents are John Gaede, born in 1866 in Ontarioville, IL. He died in 1947. Her mother was Louise Dorothea Schuett, born in 1868 in Sarmstorf, Mecklenberg, Germany. She died in 1960. The Frisks: My grandmother's father was Nils Conrad "Connie" Johansson Frisk. He was born in 1890 in Sondrom, Halland, Sweden and died in 1990 in Jennings Terrace Nursing Home in Aurora. He came here from Sweden in about 1905. His birth father had died in Sweden, and his mother remarried here. He used the name Frisk, but I don't know if anything was ever done legally to change it, or if he just used it. His mother was Hannah Mathilda Svensdotter, born 1867 in Sweden, and died in 1950 in Geneva. In Geneva, she married John Lucas Leopold Frisk. Her brothers came to America before her, and used the name of Skoglund. They owned a furniture business and a funeral home in Geneva. The Cassidy's My grandmothers mother was Letita May Cassidy. She was born in 1891 in Aurora and died in 1969 in Aurora. Her parents were George Cassidy and Margaret Tenney/Tinney. I know nothing else of them. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I was in high school with Clifford Kroning and his twin sisters Arlene and Marlene. I'm sure they lived on one of the many farms that ringed the Wheaton area. One of my many jobs during those years was at the Wheaton post office. I delivered the rural mail route one Christmas and for two weeks the following summer. 61 miles, no automatic shifted and as I remember the heater didn't work real well--and of course no air conditioning in the summer! Grace
Rick, all I have is the surname index that tells what last names were found in the cemeteries. It has no first names or dates, sorry. I live just over an hour from Kane co. so can' really do site lookups. I wrote to some cemeteries looking for info, and if anything comes back with a match I plan to go visit the cemeteries myself. I'll let the list know when and what cemeteries I'm going to hit. I thought I'd take make a list of names, and take my camcorder so I could e-mail photos of headstones for people who can't really make it to the area to see the graves for themselves. It will give me a project to work on..lol...I have a bad case of insomnia and my husband goes to bed really early so I look for projects to amuse myself...might as well do something productive with the time. debs
