Hi - any Kuykendall Johnson Co. researchers out there besides Mara and Bill Oliver? Need some help!! Have been researching the Kuykendall family back to Van-Kuykendall in NY. Would like input on the following information and questions. Listing the families I have without dates for right now: Joseph Kuykendall, Jr./Mary Polly Taylor m in Christian Co., KY came to Johnson Co., IL abt 1814-15 James Moore Kuykendall/Lydia Dean Cooper/Lydia (Lidy) Cooley West William Harrison Kuykendall/Lilia Cockran Andrew J. Kuykendall/Cynthia Simpson Unknow female m Mr. Smith Questions: When did Mary Taylor Kuykendall die and where is she buried? I assumed she had died when Joseph m 2nd Sarah (Sally) Cooper bef or abt 1822. Some researchers believe Joseph/Mary were divorced. Has anyone found a record to validate this? Does Vienna have divorce records for that time period? Most researchers do not record William Harrison as s/o Joseph. Supposedly, they were the only Kuykendall family in Johnson Co. William Harrison was b 1812 and was too young to be Josephs brother. This is a questionable connection. Others record Lila Cockran Kuykendall as a dau of Joseph when Lila Kuykendall m George W. Brazel 10 Nov 1842 in Johnson Co. Believe this is incorrect. She was the widow of William Harrison Kuykendall. There were Kuykendalls in Gallatin Co., IL and believe they were cousins of Joseph. Joseph was in Gallatin for a brief period 1815-16 - signer of petition for repeal of an act concerning the jurisdiction of Justice of the Peace General Assembly. Some believe Bellasant who m Peter Smith in Gallatin 31 Jul 1833 is the dau of Joseph. Bellasant could be connected to Lewis and Robert of Gallatin, sons of Benjamin. Believe Lewis and Robert are cousins of Joseph. Others record her as Mary - (named after her mother). In early Johnson Co records, you find Joseph, Philander and Stephen Kuykendall. Believe Joseph and Philander were brothers. Stephen and William Kuykendall were recorded in KY records in the same area as Josephs relatives. Have not made a connection for them. According to court records Hardin Kuykendall was connected to John Crenshaw who ran the Old Slave House in Gallatin. This Kuykendall could have been in Gallatin or KY. Joseph/Sarah (Sally) Cooper Elizabeth (Betsy) Kuykendall/Giles Benjamin Taylor Lydia Kuykendall/James Peterson Louisa Kuykendall/William H. Taylor Frances (Fannie) Kuykendall/William Dean Harper Susan A. Kuykendall/Elijah Monroe Hood Unknown Male b 1836 Joseph (Josh) C. Kuykendall/Martha (Marthy) C. Kendall Supposedly, Sarah Cooper was the dau of John Cooper who may have been Cherokee. Two of Josephs daus from his 2nd marriage m two of his Taylor nephews from his 1st marriage. According to bios in Johnson Co., Joseph was b in NC s/o Joseph b in NC and they migrated to KY where Joseph Sr. died. Have not been able to validate a death for Joseph Sr. in KY. Believe Joseph, Jr. is the s/o of the following Joseph - children named in will: Joseph b abt 1752 Anson, NC s/o John Kuykendall/Rebecca Hardin. Wife unknown except for one dau. According to Esther Calhoun Loves diary, his mother married Joseph and had a dau Malinda who married Elihu P. Calvert. She is in Josephs will. Joseph and Esther separated or divorced after 18 months. Joseph died Pulaski Co., AR 30 Apr 1828. Believe Joseph may have m 3 or 4 times. Mary (Polly) Kuykendall b abt 1776 prob Anson Co., NC m Abraham Stuart Rebeckah Kuykendall b abt 1780 prob Tryon Co., NC or York Co., SC m William Stuart Simon Kuykendall b abt 1782 prob Washington Co., NC (later TN) m Sarah Thompson/Betsy Thompson James M. Kuykendall b abt 1782 prob Washington Co. NC/TN - dont believe he married. Named sister Rebeckah Stuart and nephew Champ Stuart in will. Joseph Kuykendall, Jr. b bet 1780-86 d bef 1850 m Mary Taylor/Sara Cooper Philander Kuykendall b abt 1792 prob TN m Dolly Murray Dempsey Kuykendall b abt 1793-94 prob KY m Sarah Lindsey Benjamin Kuykendall b abt 1799 prob Christian Co., KY m Elizabeth Harrington Malinda Kuykendall b abt 1800-02 Caldwell Co. or Christian Co., KY m Elihu P. Calvert Josephs will is very interesting. He freed three of his slaves and Mark Kuykendall (slave) killed his youngest son Benjamin within a month of Josephs death. Questions: Has anyone found land records for Joseph, Jr. in Johnson Co. Specifically, after 1828 where land from Pulaski, AR might have been recorded in Johnson Co? Does anyone know exactly when he died and where he is buried in Johnson Co? Did he have a will or estate settlement? The above locations of birth for Joseph Sr.s children are recorded according to migration of the family: NY>NJ>VA>NC>SC>TN>KY>AR>MO>IL> and some went on to TX>CA. Trying to solve a couple of problems, but possible connection is: Luer Jacobsen Van Kuykendall/Grietje Tack>Matheus Van Kuykendall/Jannetje Westvael>John Kuykendall/Rebecca Hardin>Joseph Kuykendall/unknown (Esther Calhoun Love for 1 child)>Joseph Kuykendall/Mary Taylor/Sarah Cooper. John Kuykendall/Rebecca Hardin had: John??? Maybe Simon Benjamin Joseph Sr. Simon, Benjamin and Joseph Sr. are proven sons of John/Rebecca through land transactions in NC. Hope this is not confusing. Would like comments, questions and hopefully some answers. Have a letter written by Joseph Benton Kuykendall s/o Andrew J./Cynthia Simpson that was published in Kuykendall Families by George Benson Kuykendall c early 1900s that I will send later. Believe there are some inconsistencies in the generations. Barb Barnhart .Mara, checked your Kuykendall e-mail of Dec 20 and Jan 6 (Rosemary Trammels dates for Kuykendall children - Double Bridges /Simpson Cem. The only inconsistencies I found were in the death dates of Kuykendall children. Will check source to see if my typos and will get back to you. Barb
