I have had several responses off-list, with the same conclusion. The census entry that I was looking at turned out to be the name Jacob Dooly. Hence, another rabbit trail closed! It also appears that the N.M. Dodge that you mentioned in DuPage Co., IL, shows up as Noah M. Dodge in the 1850 census. All of you on this forum are just wonderful. Thank you for all the responses.
