    1. Re: [ILJOHNSO] obit help? George Washington Johnson aft 7/1937 Elvira?
    2. John M. Hines, Sr.
    3. Joyce; Johnson County Early Obituaries 1870's to 1975 Volume 1 George Washington Johnson George Washington Johnson, son of Tandy J. and Sarah McGinnis Johnson, was born Feb. 1, 1857, and departed this life Feb. 15, 1943, at the age of 86 years and 14 days. He was one of a large family, two brothers and two sisters having passed away many years ago. John L. Jones, Elizabeth Mitchell and Rosa Gourley, half-brother and half-sisters, are deceased. Frank Jones of Buncombe, his half-brother and Jim A. Jones of Dublin, Tex., his step-brother, are the last of this large family living. He was married to Martha Elizabeth Browning on Aug. 9, 1877. To this union were born two sets of twins, all dying in infancy and a son, Charles A. Johnson. Uncle George was born on the farm now owned by Frank Jones in Elvira Community, and he has spent his entire life near his birthplace. He was an energetic farmer and his many years of hard labor seemed but to have toughened his physique and strenghtened his vitality until just recent years, when he had to quit farming. He has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Cummings for a little more than three years. He had been for many years a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and was active in the work there as long as he could attend. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Surviving his passing are two grandsons, Herschel and George Johnson, and six great-grandchildren: Verle, Bernice, Imogene and Ora Thomas and Mrs. Opha Kerr, all children of Mrs. Gladys Johnson Thomas, deceased and Karen Ruth Johnson. 1857-1943 John AriesJoy@aol.com wrote: >Help please?? There is also a John Russell living with a family with the last name of Jacks. They are both 16 years old at the time of the Census in Johnson county and I could find no other Russells. Do you know if this is the same family that you are researching? Thanks, Debbie

    3. Read your question and I have another. Does Draper's Bluff have anything to do with the Mr. Draper who wrote so much about Southern Illinois? I have not read his transcripts, but I understand there is an index to his writings somewhere. 3. Pat and Dick, I can't answer your questions about the artist, but several years ago, the picture was on the front of an Illinois magazine. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me more about the print & the artist, Ken Martin. The number is no longer legible, but it one of 1,000.
