Since there is an Elvira Twp. in Johnson Co., I presume the cemetery to which you refer is Elvira Cemetery as well. Or, you folks in the area, does it go by some other name? Joyce; I know that some of the Maze family are buried in grave yards around Goraville and Cypress but don't know much about them and also some are buried in a grave yard outside of Popular Bluff, MO.. The one in Popular Bluff was married to one of my relations by the name of Polly Jane Hines! William Riley Maze, Jr married Polly in Jan. 5, 1888 at Lick Creek, Union County, IL.. I have more but too much to put on email! The Lick Creek area is where most of them went to and some went to Johnson County! Louise- I do have quite a bit on the Mays/Mayes/Maze line, so if you want to compare notes on that line, I'm happy to share. Joyce
Joyce.... I never should have written... I know I have some connection with Pickerell... my gr. gr. grandfather, William Greer, married Mary Ann Pickerell in Wilson Co., TN -1819 They moved to Gallatin Co., IL before 1830... they moved to Union Co., IL by 1837/8... we finally figured out they moved there because the Pickerells had moved there. [I had been searching for the surname, Hooker for 30 years. The County Clerk had read the name Green and GREER.... finally we found it was Greer....] They are in the 1850 - 1860 Union Co., IL census.... A Hanna Wiggs married a John Pickerell... he was in the Civil War from Union Co., IL... There was a Hail/Hale Pickerell who married and moved to Johnson Co., IL.... NOW, my problem is; I don't know where my notes are about the Maze/Pickerell marriage.... The last time I checked, there is a John Pickerell still living in Union Co., IL... we went to see him, but he didn't know very much about the Pickerells. Some moved to MO, some to KY... Anyway, that's what I remember about my Pickerell and Maze families... I have more.... sorry I'm unorganized!! My thanks to everyone for their help. I guess I still don't know for sure when my George Washington Johnson was born, though. The wife I have is Mary Margaret Catherine Maze/Mayes. If anyone else has this couple, please email me. Joyce
Joyce, I don't know if this is correct or not, but in the Elvira Twp., Pleasant Grove Cem., there is a George M. Johnson, husband of Martha E. Johnson, 1 Feb 1857 - 15 Feb 1943 also, Martha E. Johnson, wife of George M. Johnson; Nov. 6, 1856 - 3 Apr 1935... There are 8 other Johnsons buried in that cemetery, if you want to know their names, let me know. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I'm trying to rule out this George Washington Johnson or confirm it, and so far haven't been able to do either for sure. I think this prob will rule him out, as no other marr or children mentioned. thanks again Joyce
Thank you, John, for providing this info. I was really happy to see it as well. You know what they say...."Answer one question and dozens more pop up." I found where a Tandy J. Johnson married Mrs. Sarah Brown in Union Co. Then, backtracking, where Sarah McGinnis married Armistead Brown in Union Co. I'm interested in learning more about Sarah McGINNIS. Who were her parents? Which Jones did she marry after Tandy Johnson? (I'm presuming he died.) My McGinnis line was in southern Illinois by 1840 and Johnson Co. by 1845. I am also a 1st cousin 3 times removed of George Washington Johnson's wife, Martha Elizabeth Browning. I have info on her parents, grandparents and siblings, if anyone is interested. By the way, twins run in the Browning line. Happily in Christ, Harlene Soper Brown (My Brown line is from NC & MO, not IL) Johnson Co.
