Hughey had three girls and one boy. His daughter Ella was my Great Grandmother. Just curious if anyone out there may have anything on Armond and his wife and their other siblings as I don't know what became of them. Thank you. June Jones

    1. Elizabeth C. "Puss" Waters
    2. Peggy Oliver
    3. Dear Listers, Your emails about Puss Waters intrigued me, although I have no connection. I have tracked her on census records back to Maury County, Tennessee in 1850, where she was living with her parents William L. and Portia Smith . By 1860, she is in Pope County , Illinois, living with her father. Her name is now Elizabeth Waters and she has a 6 month old daughter named Sarah. Illinois marriage records show a marriage between Elizabeth C. Smith and John R. Waters, Pope County, 10-31-1858. This child apparently did not survive. Later census records show Elizabeth as having one birth and none living. If anyone would like the details of all the census records I found, I'll be happy to comply. However, it may be that this is common knowledge. 3. While I was growing up in Vienna in the 1950s, the area east of the railroad tracks -- near where the City Park and Depot are now -- was known as Pusstown, and it was named after Puss Waters. She was not alive during that time; I had the impression she had died much, much earlier. Her name was Elizabeth Waters, and she was not a part of the VandeWaters/Waters family of Johnson County. I remember hearing that she was a divorced woman; she was quite tall and was known for walking long distances and making sure her neighbors and all the old people were well. At one time there was a book Growing Up In Pusstown available in the Genealogy Section of the Vienna Library. If that's still there, maybe it will give some info about her. 3. Peggy, John Samuel Murrie was my uncle. Sam and his brother Ward ran a store in Simpson for a number of years. Another uncle Lenis "Dude" Murrie ran a store in Simpson at a later time. All three are deceased. I was born and raised in Northern Illinois but our family visited Simpson in the 1950s and 1960s. I don't think Sam and Ward had their store anymore when we visited. I do remember Uncle Dude's store. He would always tell us kids to help ourselves to a free "sodee". I thought that was special and I have many good memories about our visits to Simpson. 1. Elisha Eddins Reynolds and Nancy Travelstead Reynolds
    2. Peggy Oliver
    3. Dear List members, My great-great grandparents, Elisha Eddins Reynolds and Nancy Travelstead Reynolds lived most of their life in Simpson. I know that he died in 1922 and she in 1926. On the 1920 census, it appears that they are listed as Edward E. Reynolds (age and other particulars are correct) and Martha. Her age is not correct. She is listed as born in Germany. Also in the home is a servant named Media Carter. I am thinking that my GG grandparents were becoming infirm at the time, and that Media Carter was in the home as a caregiver. She may have provided the incorrect info to the census taker. It is interesting to note that on the 1910 census, Nancy says that she, herself, was born in Kentucky, but her parents were born in Germany. Actually, it was her GG grandparent who was born there. What I'm driving at here (boy do I get wordy) is does anyone know who this Media Carter is? There is also a Media Carter of the same age listed in Franklin County as a coo! k in a restaurant. I'm just wondering if she is related in anyway. Thanks for thoughts on this. Margaret Reynolds Oliver

Anyway, I know there were several Thorntons living in Goreville and in Union Co. in the 1880 census, but I don't have any more information about my side of the family. 3. Hello, Louise, Nice to hear from another cuzzin!!! No, your uncle Theodore Roosevelt Gray would not be a brother of Thomas Basil Gray. He is actually a grandnephew, but they are in the same line, and both descend from my ancestor Ivy Reynolds through his daughter, Mary Ann who married Basil Shaw Gray. Basil S. and Mary Ann had a son named Alexander Jones Gray. He married Arista Caldwell, and they had Basil Shaw Jr. in 1868. Arista died young, and Basil Sr. remarried to Izora Oliver. Basil Jr. married Margaret Austin in 1890, and they had your uncle Theodore in 1903. They had several other children as well.
