    3. Forwarded Message: Subj: Re: Re Goreville Date: 97-08-01 03:53:09 EDT From: Conundrum To: MBruce9681 WOW You have been a TREMENDOUS help....Thank You!!!! This gives me a lot of info to follow through on... My gggrandfather is listed here as Addison (full name is Simeon Addison) and shows additional siblings. Dr. Thomas (whom she lists as middle name of Benton) and his wives are listed, and confirmed by my records. It then links the next 2 generations! Back to the "founder" of Goreville, John Gore... and lists other possible sites of residing and a possible birth site for John. Really helpful info! I am a little uncertain of the connection between the John W (married to Helen) listed at the bottom... is she possibly saying that the earlier John and the John W are the same people? She lists Helen's death date as 1853. I received some additonal info recently on a John W Gore (whose mother or daughter was named Sarah) He was supposedly married in 1819 to Eleanor Seely (born in Chester Co, SC 1780-1840) The info on the General Store is interesting... most of my info on this branch of my tree comes from word-of-mouth from my Greatgrandfather's sister. She said that she remembered going to Dr. T B Gore's father's general store many times when she was a small child. She later painted the store from memory (rather crude, but interesting). I have a photo of the painting. Interesting links to this history! I will now have to see if a photo exists somewhere of the original general store. THANKS again for all your help. If I can be of help to you, please let me know. Pam Gore Conundrum@aol.com

    3. More of my old email. Hope this helps someone find a connection. Mara Subj: Re: Johnson County IL Date: 97-07-30 22:04:57 EDT From: holpuch@erols.com (Marcia K. Holpuch) To: MBruce9681@aol.com Hello, again, Mara... I'm up to Friday night's messages :O) I think I may be subscribing to too many lists! My Johnson county names are: PARKS, CASEY, BELL, WEBB, PERKINS, ALEXANDER, KELLEY, HARPER, GRAVES, all mostly in the Tunnel Hill area SELLARS/SELLERS, MANESE (many spellings), MCINTOSH, LAMON (+ other spellings) in the Pulley's Mill area (also Williamson Co) BLOODWORTH, JONES, TOLLER, HUTSON, in the Lick Creek/Wolf Creek area (also Union, Jackson, & Williamson Counties) Many of these folks go back to 1850 + earlier, from Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, and other hard to identify locations. I sure do wish all the women would just keep their maiden names! Somewhere, I also have Chapman's book, but I haven't found it again yet. The last time I saw it was several years ago... I have some boxes yet to go through. When I last looked at it, I did not know about all these surnames, and am anxious to relocate it to see if I have others listed. As I recall, my Webb's & Casey's are listed, but that's about it. My Bell's were blacksmiths (ca. 1890-1900), and I'm hoping that will provide a strong source. Can you let me know if any of my other surnames appear? Maybe that will provide the extra energy required to find the book again. It's definitely gone into hiding somewhere! Thanks for any info you can provide... I see we share a Jones. My earliest 'solid' Jones is Viola, b. 15 Jan. 1885. I believe her parents are Haywood and Nell Martha Hutson, this from my grandmothers memory, not otherwise verified. They tended to stay over in Union County. She was one of 10 children. Thanks again. Let me know if you need other 1850 lookups. Always exciting to find the next level! 3. Thanks to many of you on the list I was able to track down my W.R.Mizelle from New Burnsides, Ill. but he is still a small enigma. I thought he was going to be the father to my Mizelle line, but doesn't look as if he is. He and wife Emma M.Thompson Mizelle(1843-1928) had one son, Adolph, who moved to Shelbyville, Ill. Adolph was a physician. Somehow, someway there is a link to W.R.Mizelle, but haven't been able to find it....yet. Has anyone heard of Adolph Mizelle? Thanks again to those of you who were so kind to pass on info about W.R.M. Willsx4@aol.com (kathy)

It is a photograph of a home and on the back it states"Residence of Dr.W.R.Mizelle New Burnsides, Ill.". I'm guessing that it is dated mid-1800's. Has anyone heard of this man or family? 3. I have often wondered if Chesterfield BRYANT is a relation to my BRYANTs of Union County, IL, who I can find little about. My ggg grandmother Nancy BRYANT is listed in Union County, IL in 1850, with the following children: Joseph BRYANT, b. @ 1829 in GA Mary Ann BRYANT, b. @ 1834 in GA. She married Theophilus TURNER on 13 May 1853 in Union County, IL Lewis BRYANT, b. 1834 in GA Emaline BRYANT, b. @ 1835 in GA Catherine BRYANT, b. @ 1839 in GA George Washington BRYANT, b. 8 Sept 1840 in GA, d. 15 Sept 1908 in Stoddard County, MO. He was my gg grandfather. I have no idea who Nancy's husband was, or what her maiden name was. I do know she was b. @ 1795 in South Carolina. In 1850 in Union County she is living next door to a woman who I believe might have been her sister. Her name was Sophia TRAXLER, b. @ 1790 in South Carolina. The thing that makes me think they are related is that they, as well as Nancy's children, as listed as "mulatto". Family tradition says the Bryants were of French descent, but I believe it more likely that they were Cherokee, as certain evidence is suggesting. After 1860, I cannot find Nancy anywhere. Sophia TRAXLER is listed in Clinton County in 1860, with a William ALBEDANT. Don't know where my gg grandfather was either in 1860, although there is a George W. BRYANT also listed in Clinton County. He fought in the Civil War, enlisting in 1861 in Alexander County, IL. Name and or sex of first child is unknown.May have had a half sister with surname of Hall. G father beleived to have first married Hattie Foster in the 1880's and that one child was born to this union name and or sex unknown. Hattie beleived to have passed on around 1890/91. His second marriage was to Ellen McClanahan in 1892, two or more children were born to this union beleive Ellen and children to now be deceased. His third marriage was to Alice Carlton in 1899, to this union sseven children were born of which three died in infancy. The remaining four are all now deceased, of this four the only daughter Bessie Marie was my mother. I hold up to date information on this group of four children. I know nothing of the Carlton, McClanahan or Foster families. I feel quite sure they were all residents of Johnson Co. Any help will be ap[prciated.

    1. Thomas Simmons
    2. Greg Simmons
    3. This is a update on all the children of Thomas Simmons and Mary Ann Walker. Thomas Simmons and all his children came to Johnson Co. Ill. as far as we know. Children of Thomas Simmons and Mary Ann Walker 1)Wiley Simmons 2)Peter Simmons 3)Lewis Simmons 4)John Calvin William Simmons Sr. 5)James Potter Simmons 6)Nancy Simmons 7)Drury Simmons 8)Nasa Simmons pronounced or sounds like Lacy 9)Daniel C. Simmons 10)Female Simmons 11)Female Simmons Each one of these children had 5 to 12 or more children who lived in Johnson County. Another item of interest is, there is a book being done on the Simmons, Morris, Kerley lines of Johnson County. Anyone interested in gettting this book is still able to. Contact Faye Bowman at Abowman@accessus.net The book is due to be publish in the Middle of March. Contact Faye and she will tell you what you need to do. Tell her Greg sent you. Another point of interest for those doing research in Johnson county. You need to remember that your ancestors were called by many names and not always their given names. Here are a few example from the Simmons clan. Example 1: Barton Simmons. We known this man as Barton Simmons from birth records of his children. But his real name was Bartlet or Bartley Simmons and is living with Thomas Simmons in the 1850 Census. I just found recently that his name also was John. But in Johnson county he was called and known as Barton. So his real name is John Bartlet Simmons. Example 2:Izora Causida Simmons Her name was spelled many different ways. It was real hard to determine her Real name. The recorders of the documents entered the names as they sounded and not always as they were spelled. Also names were given on what they were called or known by. One needs to be careful when doing research in Johnson county. One final example is the 1840 census of Johnson County. You find the following Simmons living in the same area. 1)Wiley Simmons 2)Lewis Simmons 3)Lacy Simmons suppose to be Nasa Simmons sounds like Lacy 4)Potter Simmons His real name is James Potter Simmons but went by the Potter. Campbell Dotson Simmons was known and called Dot. Records from Johnson County record his name as Uncle Dot Simmons. Greg Simmons

    3. I am looking for some information about Chesterfield BRYANT, BRYAN, or BRIANT. His two enlistment records for the 6th Regiment Illinois Cavalry show him being born in Johnson County, Illinois. He originally mustered in, in Anna,Union County, Illinois in the year 1862. He is listed as being 22 years of age. His occupation was listed as being a farmer. He deserted in 1865 while on march in Alabama. According to family legend, he appeared some months later, on horseback, and took my great-great-grandmother with himand headed "out West". They left their months-old daughter, Millie Catherine Bryant ( born 12 October 1865) with the Charles Murphy family, and were never heard from again. Millie's mother was supposedly Elizabeth or Mollie Miles, but there is no record of her marriage to Chesterfield. He is listed as having married, in turn, Martha O'Neal and Martha Stines, both in Union County. Chesterfield is listed in the 1865 census with a wife and son, but no daughter. Ditto for 1860. I can find neither hide nor hair of him in the 1850 census in Illinois. Millie does not show up in any census as a child, although I have checked for girls with similar first names and ages in Union County. There is a Charles Murphy listed, as are numerous Miles. I am researching the following lines in Southern Illinois, and would love to exchange information: GOODMAN, BRYANT, CORZINE, CORRELL, GILLIAM, WALLS, WALLACE, KNUPP, PLOTT, WORLEY, KLUTTS, SIDES, URY, MCCASLAND, MCKISSICK
