    3. Were there many Irish families who went from Galena to MN? Was there a reason for this? The family of John and Mary Larkin came to Galena sometime between 1850 and 1855 and them moved to St. Paul, MN some time in the 1870s. John, his two sons (Edward and John) and some of his daughters (Mary, Belle, Catherine, Theresa and Agnes) were are in the shoemaking trade. John was in the Irish Brigade in the Civil War also -- 90th IL -- Company B, which was mainly made up of men from the Galena area. I have always wondered why they moved on to MN.
