    3. The The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index is prepared by individuals volunteering with the ISGS and the State Archives and they do this one roll of microfilm at a time. The years are not indexed "in order" so that is why you see gaps in the records. I know that Marge is currently working on the project with them and that she is trying to fill in the big gap between 1852-1870. The reason that gap is there is that Bob Hansen indexed from 1829-1852, but then he died, so he wasn't able to go on to the next few years. In the meantime, I was working on 1870-1885. That left the gap from 1852-1870. It takes a LONG TIME to go through these records and index them. The handwriting is often not very readable and you end up spending time comparing names to other sources to try to determine the spellings, etc. There is a document on the web that gives a status of all counties in Illinois and how close to completion they are with the index. The URL is: http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/marrlst.html It would be wonderful if there were more volunteers to help with this project. If interested, please contact Marge <[email protected]> and she can tell you who to contact to volunteer. -Cheryl Hemingway Close To My Heart Consultant <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/RubberTreasures.html> Rubber Treasures ----- Original Message ----- From: Ralph Anderson <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 03, 2000 11:45 PM Subject: Re: [ILJODAVI] Scales Mound Marriage Records > I am interested in the answer to this question also.
