Elmira was born in Illinois on 22 June, 1834, exact location unknown. She next shows up in Woodbine Twp, Jo Daviess Co, married to Joseph. Their first child, Mary Louisa, born 1856, was born in Woodbine Twp. Two other children, Melvina born 1860, and Josephine Eveline born 1862, at that location. In 1865, the family left for California.
