    1. Re: [ILJODAVI] Early Irish immigrants to Vinegar Hill questions

    3. My Irish ancestors, the family of John and Mary LARKIN, came to Galena in the mid 1850s after John was a bootmaker in Milford, Mass. I believe he was a famine immigrant. He was a shoe maker in Galena and also a recruit in the 90th IL during the civil war. I do not think he came with anyone but his wife and 2 children, but there were other Larkins in the county. In the late 1870s the family moved to St. Paul, MN, and will still shoemakers there. Jeanne > I've been reading "The History of Jo Davies Co.", and the book seems to say that many of the early settlers in the Vinegar Hill area came from Ireland. Have their been any books written on the subject of Irish immigration to Galena Illinois? Did early immigrants come to the vecinity in large groups, or did inviduals make the journeys themselves? >
