And these are now available on-line. DIRECTIONS: At our homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then click on ILLINOIS in the table of states. Scroll down to the section titled RECORDS. Click on the link to the table of ILLINOIS STATE ARCHIVES holdings of poorhouse records by state. That will take you to a list of ALL the poorhouse holdings (for every county)... and those with a name index have been highlighted in yellow. The two latest indexes are indicated with yellow NEW arrows. (Previously, we had listed Brown, Mercer, Ogle, Stark and Woodford counties.) There are other pages on our site which may help you better understand poorhouses. They are all linked on the homepage (at the left) and include: HISTORY, LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS, and FEATURED ARTICLES.
