    3. Hi Listers, I am beginning to plan my May 1st trip to Jo Davies County and surrounding area. Beside the genealogy section of the Galena library I know the Stockton Library is a must, but what about the Elizabeth and Hanover Libraries? Any good stuff there? Does anyone know the hours they are open? I forget the different types of 'courts' there are in Galena, and what each holds that would be of interest to someone searching their family records. Would someone be so kind as to describe the different courts and what they hold. Any other suggestions? Thank you Dorothy searching Conley, Breen, Garrett, Bell and others

    3. Hi I visited the Elizabeth Library about 2 years ago. It is not too big and I did not find much of interest on early history. They did not have anything on local genealogy. Elizabeth has a fledging Historical society but at that time was mainly interested in the railroad. Maybe they have branched out by now. The Apple River Fort Museum in Elizabeth is worth visiting if you have an interest in the Black Hawk War period. There is plenty to keep you busy at the Galena Library. The local history room was only open several hours a day when I was there so you need to build your schedule around their hours. You should also plan on visiting the Galena JoDaviess Historical Society. They have great exhibits and a good selection of books on local history for sale. I stayed at a bed and breakfast just across the river which was within walking distance of the Library and this worked out quite well. You should enjoy your trip.
