I'm now interested in finding an intent to naturalize from one James Scott who came to Galena from Ireland in 1834 or 1835. He married Margaret Bonson, and I know that the Bonsons are well documented in the area. I am hoping that James's intent to naturalize will give a more specification origin than "Ireland". Perhaps a county or a town in that area of the world. Would anyone happen to know where these documents are kept? Are they kept in Chicago, Galena, or where? I've read different things on the internet, and I'm confused to say the least. Sorry to bother you all, Stephen Scott

Looking for any info on the Vandelinder (Vandelinden, Vanderlinder) family. My G Grandfather Gradus Vandelinder was born in JoDavies Co approx the 1860's-1870's. I believe that his father was "John C Vandelinder" & his uncle was "William Vandelinder". I think they may have come from New York. I have heard rumors that my line is descended from the Jacob Vanderlinden who helped found New Amsterdam (now Manhattan) but have not confirmed this yet of course) As was usual in those days, the spelling of their surname was varied. Gradus married "Ethel Pearl Miller", also, I believe from Jo Davies county (try researching the last name "Miller" lol lol). Any info or leads would be much appreciated. Dena Mattox Rush

Felt has a bio. Some facts were "Benjamin F. Felt married Sept. 11, 1854 Miss Ann Elizabeth Platt of Plattsburgh, New York. She was born March 12, 1830 and died April 4, 1909. She moved to Galena as a bride. Surviving children were Zephaniah Charles Felt, Benjamin Franklin Felt and Anna E. Felt." There is quite a long article as they started the library at Galena, I will research more if you haven't already discovered this information. I was interested as I am researching the Platt family, though my Platt's came from Connecticut to Ohio to Quincy, Illinois.

Though I have never been to this part of Northern Illinois, it was wonderful that so many people came forward with advice and offers to help in some way. People in the genealogy community and their generosity is really a wonderful thing. I hope to make it Jo Daviess County some day. Until then, best of luck to everyone in their research. Gerard J. Cris I found a Mary M. Riley listed in Competine Township, Wapello County, Iowa. Mary A. Riley, age 72, born in Ireland, listed as the mother-in-law of head of household Larry Fitzsimmons. Not sure about the Fitzsimmons name as it is blurry. Several children are listed. I found two more Mary Riley's list in the 1880 census for Richland, Wapello County, Iowa. Mary A. Riley, age 4, born in Iowa daughter of Patrick and Catherine Riley. Mary Riley, age 9, born in Iowa daughter of Michael and Mary Riley. The last two families are two dwellings apart in the census. Each family list numerous children. Any relation? I hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of more help. Jeanette jagetti@aol.com

Am I to assume that the age on the census is incorrect? If so, could this be him coming to the US in 1851? That would eliminate the possibility of him being in the 1850 census.
