The cemetery is located in West Galena Twp - my son-in-law works with the county road supervisor - I will check with him and see if he knows where the cemetery is located. I could attempt to find a marker there for you, once the weather gets warmer! Bonnie -- Bonnie J. I am looking for someone willing to digitally photograph a headstone in Citizen's Cemetery in Scales Mound Township and email it to me. We have no family left in that area and apparently there are no caretakers of the cemetery where we could get any further information. It is a gravestone for Maria Friderick Hellmund w/o Ernest Hellmund. I would be very grateful for any help anyone can give me. This lady is my husband's great great grandmother and we have no other knowledge about her. Thank you!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Jg.2ADI/1191.2.1 Message Board Post: I may be able to give you some information about Jane Spurgeon. I am descended from Francis McGinnis and Jane Copher through their son Enoch McGinnis who was a sister of Zaurtha Jane McGinnis. Eleanor was the second wife of Francis, Jane Copher McGinnis having died 9 June 1849. Francis and Jane did not have a daughter named Tabitha but they did have one named Zaurtha Jane and she married Joe Surgeon. This may be the reason you have been having difficulity - her name was Zaurtha, not Tabitha. How many Joe Surgeons can there be in Jo Davies County? ( I have found several errors in this line - especially Francis' death date.) Zaurtha Jane was born in 1839 in Indiana and died in 1864. I just visited the cemetery where she is buried last summer and her tombstone says "Jane Spurgeon lived 25 years". It is on one side of a four sided tombstone. Another side is for Francis McGinnis and one for his wife, Jane. There is no doubt she is a daughter of Francis and Jane McGinnis. ! She is buried in Clay Cemetery, Berreman Township, Jo Daviess County, Illinois where many of the McGinnis' are also buried. I don't have any of Jane and Joe's children. Sherry and I have corresponded for some time and I gave her most of this information so she may have passed it on to you. If you would like more on Francis McGinnis and his family, please contact me. I am currently working on the Cofer/Copher line and looking for more on Reuben, Jane Copher's father.

He is a famous or infamous resident. Don't know much about the parents but I know Sammy. Sammy burned down a neighbor's barn and then hid out until he was found. Jailed and came to trial but was acquitted by reason of insanity. Sammy was schizophrenic and sent off to "East Moline", location of the area mental health hospital. I ran across a court record where Sammy was adjudicated. Previoulsy all I knew was the good town gossip!!! I know the Mormon church has microfilmed many old Jo Daviess death certificates. Maybe they will show the parents of Jerome. Good luck.......are you related to Sammy??? Check your genes!!!! lol Lyman
