    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Eh.2ADI/276 Message Board Post: Web site update 3/14/05 http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/ The Historic Atlas Series has been updated to include township and precinct level atlases from Pennsylvania and Kentucky. By popular request, we are currently digitizing more of these kinds of atlas and map data, and will be adding more in the coming weeks. Kentucky: http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/ky_map/ky_index.html Pennsylvania: http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/pa_map/pa_index.html At the present, atlas CD's are offered from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Missouri, West Virginia and Virginia will be added later this year so please feel free to check back often. The Historic Atlas Series may be an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century places and place names. Many early property owners are indicated on the township and precinct level maps making these a great resource for identifying 19th century land ownership. Each atlas includes the following 19th century features: * roads, railroads and canals * cities, towns and villages * post offices and government sites * one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries * rivers, streams and ferries * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * early homesteads and farms * land ownership - and much, much more Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of high resolution Adobe PDF formatting, map documents may be inspected at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images, and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. The map data has been created and configured using the Adobe Acrobat Reader (6.0) for MS Windows (98, 98SE, XP, NT and 2000). The maps may be viewed in earlier versions of the software as well; however, optimum use of the data can be expected using the Adobe Reader 6.0 that is included on each CD. Surnames: FRONNE/FROMME/RODDEWIG/HILGERS/HEILMAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Jg.2ADI/1409 Message Board Post: I am trying to determine the town in Germany where Frederick and George Henry RODDEWIG was born. Frederick RODDEWIG was born about 1798 and George Henry RODDEWIG was born about 1805 and may have been brothers. George arrived in Galena earliest, as he married there in 1841. Frederick's family arrived about 1845. The 1850 census of Galena, for Frederick, shows a child born at sea (Atlantic Ocean) about 1845. At least 5 of Frederick's children are listed as born in Hanover (City of Hanover? Kingdom of Hanover?). So I have tried to locate naturalization records. I was only able to locate this one, which was for Ernest born about 1843 Hanover. Ernest married Mary Theresa HILGERS in Galena in 1866. ************************************************** Naturalization: Petition, Final Oath and Certificate Page 41 County Court, JoDaviess Co., ILL petitioned Monday 17 Sept 1888 Ernest Roddewig a native of Germany in Illinois 43 years. Oath and certificate dated 30 Oct 1888. ********************************************** This is yet another document indicating Frederick's family arrived in 1845. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate Ernest's "Application for Citizenship". Perhaps another RODDEWIG researcher would like to search for it. At the time, I was not trying to locate one for George Henry RODDEWIG either, only for the children of Frederick RODDEWIG. Finding the naturalization application for Ernest or for George Henry would help to pinpoint a town in Germany where they resided. In a Scott Co., Iowa county history it shows Ferdinand RODDEWIG, born 26 Jun 1828 Westphalia, to be a son of "Frederick and Charlotte" and that Frederick had been the clerk of court in Bielefeld. I have also looked at Evangelishe church records of Bielefeld and although there are RODDEWIG's residing there, I could not locate a birth record for George Henry, Frederick or any of Frederick's children. This same county history indicates Frederick was Lutheran, but that Charlotte was Catholic. I have not yet searched the Catholic church records. As for the maiden name of Frederick's wife, Charlotte FRONNE/FROMME, I found this on Clayton Co., Iowa film #1673367 #129. I looked for the 1909 death of Frederick's daughter, Hannah, Mrs. Henry F. HEILMAN and it gave her mother as Charlotte FRONNE (or Charlotte FROMME).

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Jg.2ADI/1408 Message Board Post: George Henry RODDEWIG, b. about 1805, Germany married Anna Maria BOLLMAIER in 1841 in JoDaviess Co., ILL. I believe he is a younger brother of Frederick RODDEWIG who settled in Galena a few years later. George Henry RODDEWIG obviously died in 1858 as his will is dated Jan 1858 and was proven in Feb 1858. Can someone provide an actual date of birth for him? Perhaps a tombstone has his birthdate. His only child to live to adulthood, Adam RODDEWIG, is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena. However, his two infant sons and 12 year old dau, Caroline, are buried in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery in Galena but I have not located the burial site for George Henry RODDEWIG. I've just sent several of my RODDEWIG files to Wolfgang RODDEWIG of Berlin, Germany. He will check his database to see if there is a match on Frederick and George Henry but actual dates of birth will certainly make his task easier. Of the 5 or 6 RODDEWIG researchers whom I 've corresponded with, only one has been a descendant of George Henry. We need his date of birth to determine where he was born.

    3. The old cemetery in Galena is actually what used to be the Old City Cemetery. It was closed a while ago and burials moved to other area cemeteries. I suggest contacting Steve Repp at the Special Collections dept. at the Galena Library. He's really helpful and probably can give you some idea of where many of the burials went. This dept. has lots of historical and genealogical info on Galena area families etc. Jennifer Norman jennifer@heer.com www.jennifer.heer.com Only a Genealogist regards a step backwards as progress. -----Original Message----- From: Deb [mailto:ilgrundy@earthlink.net] Sent: Friday, February 25, 2005 8:02 AM To: ILJODAVI-L@rootsweb.com Subject: FW: Old cemetary -----Original Message----- From: kelley [mailto:kelley55@covad.net] Sent: Thursday, February 24, 2005 4:56 PM To: ILJODAVI-D-request@rootsweb.com Subject: Old cemetary Hi, In my genealogy search I have found a reference to a person buried in the "old Cemetary in Galena.
