    1. [ILJODAVI] Cemetery address
    2. Aline Kelm
    3. Can some one tell me the mailing address for the Elmwood City Cemetery in Warren. Is it still in operation? I would like to know if they have an index of all who were buried in the cemetery, not just those who have grave stones. I have a few questions for them and would like to contact them. I have checked the Elmwood City Cemetery Tombstone Index and the people I want are not listed. Thanks Aline

    3. Hi everyone - I've been a little slow lately, but things are picking up again and the website has new additions for you to view. Alene sent letter "S" of the 1860 census index to me today and it has been added to the site. Thanks Alene! I've updated all of the queries, and they are now in our archive base. I'll be adding more biographical sketches tomorrow, and plan to get those 1855 Personal Tax records taken care of the Marjorie sent to me. Don't give up on the St .Mary's cemetery. I'm working on it. -Cheryl

    1. [ILJODAVI] Obituary Lookup - Hanover, Jo Daviess County
    2. Robert J. Nobis
    3. Could someone please do an obituary lookup for me in the Hanover Journal for the time period of 19 to 28 October 1906 My great-grandfather, Heinrich (Henry) F. NOBIS, died on 19 October 1906 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A brief obit in the evening edition of Minneapolis Journal, October 19, 1906, stated that he was to be buried in the Hanover area. This burial probably occurred between 22 October and 28 October, 1906. Heinrich's two sons, Gustav and Henry NOBIS lived in Hanover, so they may have had a death or funeral notice published in the newspaper. Thank you Bob Nobis Mesa, AZ --

    3. Hi All, Could someone tell me the headings for the 1870 Jo Daviess Census (Menominee) or where on the internet I could find them? I have the ARTZ family (household 6) which shows a check in the column of what I think is "attended school in the past year" for the 27-year-old wife and the 6-year-old daughter. Do you think the wife actually attended school or would you just chalk it up to censustaker error? Thanks-. Mary Dawson

    2. Cheryl Hemingway
    3. Hi everyone - this is totally non-genealogy related, but I'm hoping that I can prevail upon you to help me out. My son's 4th grade class is working on a mapping project and is asking that if we know people from across the US that we would ask them to send an email to the class telling where you are from and just a little bit about where you live. It would sure be a big help to them if you can do this. They've received messages from across the US, but certainly not all - and they especially need to hear from people in the northeast US. They have nothing from that area. The email address is: [email protected] You can put in the subject line something like: "checking in from Maine" or wherever you are from. I really do apprecaite any emails that go to the school. -Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb: http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi/index.htm Jo Daviess Co., IL Marriage Index: http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/Mrg.html

    2. Ralph Anderson
    3. Connie I have two books on Grant that have him arriving in Galena in April, 1860 from Saint Louis. The American Guide (WPA, 1937) for Galena lists the Grant leather store, where he first went to work in 1860, at 120 Main. The street numbers were redone on Main at some point in time so this may not be the current number. A second, later location where Grant worked was at the Grant and Perkins Store 2 doors north of the corner of Hill and Main. Ralph Anderson Boulder, CO [email protected]

    1. [ILJODAVI] Rootsweb is down
    2. Cheryl Hemingway
    3. Unfortunately, Rootsweb is still down, and it's looking like it may be for several days. They have had major problems - first their disk crashed, then there was a major truck accident on the highway which took out electricity for about a 40 mile radius from where they are. The truck hit a major electric "hub", so even the electricity may be out for a few days! Right now Rootsweb is using their generator and the only thing that is running are the mailing lists. Everything else has been shut down. Anyhow, as soon as they are back up and running, you should be able to access the website again. =Cheryl
