    1. [ILJODAVI] YOUNG family--1854-1900
    2. EBerkson
    3. Cousin Leona and I are still searching for our elusive YOUNG ancestors. This was a large family; there must be someone out there descended from this family. John Thomas YOUNG, b. 1804 in Allegheny Co, PA. He married Nancy Jane ALLISON, b. 1805 in PA. They had ten children: Allison, James Stinson, Jerusha, Thomas Jefferson, Charles Morgan, John Scott, Charity M., Julius Lemoine, Lydia Jane, and Winston Milton Gaius. All were born in Mercer County, PA. Lydia Jane died as a young child. About 1854 John and Nancy moved their family to Jo Daviess County, IL. John died in 1874 and Nancy in 1895. Both are buried in Jo Daviess Co. Most of their children with the exception of Charles Morgan moved further westward to Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Charles Morgan spent the remainder of his life in Jo Daviess Co. Any help with this family greatly appreciated. We're trying to fill in some big gaps and would like to talk with other descendants of this family. Janet Young Berkson

    1. [ILJODAVI] Engineer in Galena, ca 1918-1930s
    2. John Light-Monterey,CA
    3. I have scanned the Jo Daviess site for resources, and I have looked for an Illinois death record for one "John Grant Light" who, according to family tradition, worked in Galena as an engineer. He may have owned or managed a gas company there after 1918. He became a widower in New York state in early 1918 where I have also been unable to find any trace of him. We have no record whatsoever after his wife's death in 1918, his age then only 48. I have been unable to locate any records for two of his three children as well. He likely owned property. If anyone has any suggestions, or resources covering this period, or recommendations on where I might go next, I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you. -JL

    1. [ILJODAVI] East Fork Township
    2. Cheryl Hemingway
    3. Linda - this is indeed a mystery to many of us. I've even asked Scott Wolfe at the Galena Public Library Jo Daviess Co. history room, and he doesn't even know. A CLUE though is that my POSEY ancestors were ennumerated in East Fork Precinct, and IF they were living where we believe they were, they were north of Galena in what became Council Hill Township or Vinegar Hill Township on Posey Hollow Rd. This would include the area where the Miners Cemeteries are located. -Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb: http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi/index.htm Jo Daviess Co., IL Marriage Index: http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/Mrg.html

    3. Linda Patterson <[email protected]> attempted to post this to the mailing list but it was rejected because she was using rich text formatting in her email message. Rootsweb will not allow anyone to post through their server if the message is in rich text format, so I suggest turning that "off" when posting to any rootsweb mailing list. Now, on to Linda's question: Does anyone know what area the East Fork Precinct in the 1850 census covered? Thanks, Linda

    2. Cheryl Hemingway
    3. I am attempting to work with my somewhat crippled computer and update the Jo Daviess website. I have added the 1855 Personal Property Tax records for surnames beginning with letters A-C. Would you mind checking the link and see if the document is too large to load on your computers and let me know if you have any trouble. Once I know that this is working, I'll begin loading the rest of those tax records. -Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb: http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi/index.htm Jo Daviess Co., IL Marriage Index: http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/Mrg.html

    3. This may not be an entirely new thing but I saw today on Ancestry that the Illinois archives has added some records from IRAD to their website. I went to check it out and found they have a global search engine which allows for searching all their online records at one time. I had not seen this before and wanted you all to know abt it. No IRAD stuff from Jo Daviess yet alas. Here is the url: http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/database.html Regards, Christina
