This came to me in email today, and I thought you all would appreciate it. Dear Ancestor: Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled So many years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you. -Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] <http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi> Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html> Cheryl's personal website

As you all know, I have been waiting for months for my computer upgrade. Well, it is finally here, but in the process of transferring data to the new computer all of my mail files were lost. If you sent pictures to me for the Jo Daviess website, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send them to me again as soon as possible. I plan to put these up in the photo gallery and continue to add other data to the site. Any other contributions that you would like me to add? =-Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] <http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi> Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html> Cheryl's personal website
John Thomas YOUNG (b. 1804) and Nancy Jane ALLISON (b. 1805) were married about 1827 in Mercer County, PA. They had ten children, all born in Mercer County. Allison, James, Jerusha, Charles, John, Charity, Thomas, Julius, Lydia, and Gaius. Lydia died before the age of 5 and was buried in Mercer County. About 1854 John and Nancy moved with the rest of their family to Jo Daviess County, IL. Most of their children eventually moved further west except for Charles. John, Nancy and Charles all died in Jo Daviess county and are burid there. I'm looking for other researchers of this line to exchange informtion about John and Nancy's descendants. Please contact me if you think you may have a connection. Thanks, janet young berkson
I would like to invite all of you to join us for genealogy chat for northwestern IL and related Pennsylvania counties on Thursday evening at 8:00pm CST. I may be late tomorrow evening but all of you just start without me. Just go to www.freeportillinois.com and press the chat button on the right hand side. It loads in a little slowly sometime but is worth the wait. When it comes up, it will ask for your name and for a profile. Put the surnames you are researching in the profile part. Have fun. Lou Cook
Hi everyone! I am new to this list and hope to make some connections on the above surnames in Jo Davies County. Here is what I have: Nicholas MILLER, born 1833, married Mary Anna BRUCE, born 1842. Not sure if marriage took place in Germany (Prussia) or Jo Davies County, but the couple both died in Jo Davies County and are buried in SINGER Catholic Cemetery. I know of at least 9 children born to them: 1. Margaret MILLER 2. Mary MILLER (1860-1925) 3. Peter MILLER (born abt. 1866) 4. John MILLER (born abt. 1870) 5. Anna MILLER (about 1872) 6. Joseph MILLER (about 1874) 7. Theresa (Thersa) MILLER (born 1877) First husband was Fred MEADER (b: 1875) and her second husband was Andrew BRUMMER (born 1883) 8. Frank MILLER (1879) 9. Albert MILLER (1886) These children of course married and had children. With the exception of Theresa MILLER's descendents I know very little about the rest of the family. ANY LEADS OR LOOK-UPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks, Michele Barry [email protected] Nicholas MILLER's parents are believed to be Peter MILLER/MULLER and Margaretha BRUCE (?).
Hi everyone. I finally have my new computer equipment and software installed here at home, but there was a problem in the conversion in that I lost ALL OF THE DATA that had been saved in my email folders. As a result, I'm going to have to ask for you to resend that data. However, I'm going to try to do this in a way that I can keep better track of what is being sent. For now, I would like to ask that if you asked me to change your email addresses on the Jo Daviess Co. website that you would check to see if it has been done. If not, please send the request to me again and I will take care of it quickly. After I have all the email addresses updated, then I will ask for submission of other data. -Cheryl Hemingway

Subject: Gas-Out!! : Last year on April 30,1999, a gas out was staged across America to bring : the price of gas down, and it worked. It's time to do something about it : again. Only this time lets make it for three days instead of just one. : The so-called oil cartel decided to slow production to drive up gasoline : prices. Let's see how many American people we can get to band together : for a three day period in April, NOT TO BUY ANY GASOLINE, during those : three days. : : LETS HAVE A GAS OUT. Do not buy any gasoline from APRIL 7, 2000, : THROUGH APRIL 9, 2000. Sorry some of you could not get in last Thurs. I don't know why not, about ten others did. I will have Frank check in with Volano and see what the problem is. What web server do you use? If there is some consistency with those who cannot get in and servers then we may be able to see why. We are changing servers within the next month which may alleviate the problem all together, but please each of you who did not get in, e-mail me privately. Hello everyone, I needed to let you know that I am going to be offline for several days while my new computer equipment is installed. During this time, I will not be available for lookups, updates to the Jo Daviess website, etc. Hopefully I'll be back by Friday evening. I just found this little bit of information while going through some of my grandmother's pictures, etc., and thought I'd pass it along for whatever it's worth. (My grandmother, Marjorie Laird, is one of the pupils listed. Genevieve Laird is her cousin.) The document is titled "School Souvenir", is dated 1919 and has a photograph of an unidentified woman on its cover. One of the inside pages lists the following: Travis School, District No. 92, Council Hill Township, JoDaviess County, Illinois Emily Raisbeck, Teacher B. L. Birkbeck, Co. Supt. A. H. Bastian, Clerk Wm. Travis, President Noble Hughes, Director PUPILS Alice Haser Myrtle Bastian Genevieve Laird Millie Lowery Ethel Hughes Bernice Travis Marjorie Laird May Hughes Ida Travis Florence Hughes William Hughes
