    2. To Listers, Looking for information regarding the George and Minerva Stubbs family, living in Berryman, Jo Daviess County, Illinois (1860 census) with their three kids. I think that Minerva may have had one or two more children in the early 1860's, Jennie and Mary Ellen. Our tree has a Mary Ellen Stubbs of Berryman, that married Frank Tayler of Berryman in the early 1880's. Are there any county records of births or deaths for the early 1860's? Was there an 1865 Illinois or county census? Are there local directories of that time? What newspapers might someone have listed a notice of a death/birth that happened in Berryman in 1862-5? I am trying to get a definite link from our Mary Ellen Stubbs to that of George and Minerva Stubbs (if they are really related). Are there local history books or other references that I can look into? Any help on our research will be greatly appreciated. Zoe <[email protected]>

    3. Fellow Researchers, The hotel name was changed from the White Star Hotel to the Stockton Hotel. by 1911, per letter on the hotel stationery written by my ancestor Mary Ann Williams 1820-1913 (1/h John Chapman VanDelinder, 2/h Edward L. Bruce). Her grandaughter Alice Sophia Guild wed Wm. Z.Whitson in 1878. Alice & Bill Whitson had 7 children in all, and 4 were born before this hotel was built. On page 213 of volume 1 of the 1990 published book "Discovering Our Past" by the Heritage League of NW IL, there is a reference to the White Star Hotel being built in 1889 by my Wm. Z. Whitson and the that first billiard room was there. Tsk! Tsk! Billiards were promptly considered to be a form of gambling by the city fathers of Stockton it seems. Does anyone know if there has been a volume 2 put out by this Heritage League, and if is it available anywhere for purchase? -- Nancy M. 3. Fellow listers, Does anyone know anything about the WHITESTAR HOTEL that was built in Stockton at the corner of Queen & Hudson St. It is a white frame building and was still standing there in 1990. My direct ancestor William Z. WHITSON 1856-1940, claims to have built it. At least he did own it at one time as I have some of the hotel's letterhead stationery. 1. [ILJODAVI] research/lookups
    2. Ron Flynn
    3. Hi again, Does anyone know if any of the Jo Davies Co. Historical Societies or Libraries will do census lookups? On the Jo Davies GenWeb page in the 1880 census index there is a Earnest RODWICK on page 232B. If that's the name on the index, it's probably on the census that way too, though his name is really Ernest RODDEWIG. The online index does not give Ward # or ED# or which microfilm roll # this family is on, since Jo Davies Co. is split on 2 microfilm rolls for the 1880 census. Any thoughts on getting where/how to get the copy of the correct census page for this family would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron Flynn

    3. Greetings, all. This came across a list I belong to today and I am passing it to all of the lists I subscribe to as it may be useful to you. I have already sent it to the lists that I manage and received a good response. Sometimes, if you can look through your family tree and note that a lot of people (especially children and the elderly) died in the same year within a short time of each other, and the year is lisded as one for an epidemic, they may have died from the epidemic. Hope it helps you, or at least informs you! Vince Thanks to Jane A. of OHMIAMI-L for first posting this. 3. It is possible, but it's more likely that Thomas could be a son of one of Henry's older brothers. They all had children in Jo Davis County, but I'm afraid I'm only aware of those who went on to Sidney Iowa in the late 1860's. I need to get ahold of some census records for Illinois when I get back from vacation. With the number of Spittlers listed in the Jo Davies area after 1870, I'm convinced some of the children stayed in the area when their parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents moved on to Iowa. I will keep your message and let you know if I find a connection! > Donna, > > Did your Henry Spittler have a son, Thomas?
