Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin BLANKENSHIP without much to go on. I am sending this to the Illinois lists because I am thinking that since his wife was born in IL and her parents in TN, that maybe the Blankenship's moved from TN to IL, then to MO. Unfortunately I do not have last names for the women born in IL, but I figure that if I start shooting in the dark long enough, I will hit something. I estimate the Blankenship's migrating to IL after 1825. I found Calvin BLANKENSHIP married to DELIAH on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WILLIAM BLANKENSHIP and his wife, PAMELA JANE. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll, since he was a confederate), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!!

Strangely enough, all of the cemetery links just stopped working this week all on their own. I hadn't changed a thing on them, but suddenly we started getting error messages on all of the links. Well, I've written to rootsweb and they replied to change the way my links were coded. I've done that and they all seem to be working now. If you find other links on the website showing the same type of problem, please let me know. -Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] <http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi> Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html> Cheryl's personal website http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/RubberTreasures.html> my Close To My Heart (rubber stamping & scrapbooking) consultant page.
Barb and all, I decided to post this reply publically since it is likely to apply to all of you. I have checked with Rootsweb and am waiting for a response from them in regards to why our links are not working today. I checked the files at rootsweb and they are all still there so they should be linking properly. I'll let you all know as soon as I have a response from them and get the problem with the website fixed. This problem appears to be effecting the cemetery listings only. -Cheryl Hemingway Close To My Heart Consultant <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/RubberTreasures.html> Rubber Treasures ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2000 1:40 AM Subject: Couldn't get to Cemetery info > Cheryl, I could not get into the Woodbine-Jewels Prairie Cemetery records. > When I clicked on the site I got this message. Dear List; This summer I visited lovely Jo Daviess County, and many of the cemetery's there. For those of you that have family buried there but have not visited the area, this will help you when trying to locate information. The web site only gives the local name of the cemetery, and several cemeteries are actually known and the sign shows a different name. *Derinda Center Cemetery is Trinity Lutheran Cemetery *Massbach Cemetery is St. John Lutheran Cemetery *Fehler Cemetery is Albrecht Cemetery (used to have a sign posted with Albright). I hope this information helps you locate your family. I recently purchased three photographs of people whose pictures were taken in approx.1890 in your county. My latest hobby is buying these pictures and locating descendants/family members and re-uniting the pictures with people who will treasure them. All the pictures are in very good condition, and I will be happy to send my mailing address to anyone who wishes to have it in order to send me a check to cover costs and postage: 1. Mrs. J. A. Rodden, "of Rodden, Illinois" - approximately age 30. Cost $8.00, including postage. 2. George Krug (possibly Kreig?), of Massbach, Illinois - approximately age 40. Cost $6.50, including postage. 3. Mrs. S. A. Stump, of "Galena, Illinois" - approximately age 40. Cost $7.50, including postage. Could you advise me the best way to advertise these, so that we can re-unite the pictures with family members? Possibly you could turn this Email into a query on your site? Thanks for your help. Thanks to everyone who wrote in answer to my puzzle over missing marriage records. This in certainly a great list to belong to. Pat
The marriage for 1849-1855 have been adjusted so they will load much quicker now. Thanks again to Marjorie for sending them to us. -Cheryl Hemingway [email protected] <http://users.rootsweb.com/~iljodavi> Jo Daviess Co., IL USGenWeb <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/HomeonWeb.html> Cheryl's personal website http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/RubberTreasures.html> my Close To My Heart (rubber stamping & scrapbooking) consultant page.
Hi everyone, Marjorie has finished transcribing the Marriage Records for years 1849-1855 and I have them on the website. They are currently there in "table format", so they might be difficult for some of you to download. I am trying to figure out a "fixed width" font that I can use on the website so that I can put this data on the site in just plain old text, so I hope to improve the delivery on the data soon. -Cheryl Hemingway Close To My Heart Consultant <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/RubberTreasures.html> Rubber Treasures
I found some Lafayette County, Wisconsin ancestors in a Dubuque Co. IA database in Ancestry.com when they had a free trial on them back in August. I stumbled on the marriage by accident looking at a possible sibbling and turned up three marriages, they mispelled the names and I would have never looked for it the way they had it in the index. It has an insert of the 1828 map of the Lead Region. The bottom of the map has "Aus der Geographischen Graviranstalt des Bibliographischen Iinstituts zu Hildburghausen Amsterdam Paris u. I think it is fascinating that two of these maps exist after all this time in Jo Daviess County.
Hi, I agree! And the flip side to this is that alot of my family (from WI) went to northern IL or IA to get married. Didn't they know that they were supposed to stay home and get married like good little ancestors??? :-) Thanks! Could the Scapville that you listed be the current very small village of Schapville? I don't know much about the village itself, only that my grandparents used to live there and my parents were married there. Would another possible reason that some individuals don't appear in the Illinois Marriage Index be that they traveled to Wisconsin to get married? In a post a month back or so, I thought someone mentioned that many Jo Daviess county residents got married in southwest Wisconsin. If so, that would be a distinct possibility for Scales Mound folks since they're so close to Shullsburg, WI. Just a thought . . . Joellyn :) -researching Hesselbacher
The The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index is prepared by individuals volunteering with the ISGS and the State Archives and they do this one roll of microfilm at a time. The years are not indexed "in order" so that is why you see gaps in the records. I know that Marge is currently working on the project with them and that she is trying to fill in the big gap between 1852-1870. The reason that gap is there is that Bob Hansen indexed from 1829-1852, but then he died, so he wasn't able to go on to the next few years. In the meantime, I was working on 1870-1885. That left the gap from 1852-1870. It takes a LONG TIME to go through these records and index them. The handwriting is often not very readable and you end up spending time comparing names to other sources to try to determine the spellings, etc. There is a document on the web that gives a status of all counties in Illinois and how close to completion they are with the index. The URL is: http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/marrlst.html It would be wonderful if there were more volunteers to help with this project. If interested, please contact Marge <[email protected]> and she can tell you who to contact to volunteer. -Cheryl Hemingway Close To My Heart Consultant <http://members.tripod.com/~Chemingway/RubberTreasures.html> Rubber Treasures ----- Original Message ----- From: Ralph Anderson <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 03, 2000 11:45 PM Subject: Re: [ILJODAVI] Scales Mound Marriage Records > I am interested in the answer to this question also. Isbell crossed the border into Canada he gave his birthplace as Houston, IL. His parents were on the Jo Daviess census for 1850 and 1860. He was born 1856. Is there a state census for the inbetween year of 1855? Is there a place in Jo Daviess Co. named Houston? I find it difficult to believe he did not know where he was born. The only Houston I could find was in Adams Co. I'm looking for a logical explanation.
I am interested in the answer to this question also. I have marriages that are listed in the microfilm of the original Jo Daviess marriage records which do not appear inthe state listings. Ralph Anderson Boulder, CO [email protected]
