But it would be better if your friend posted more information regarding specific individuals. "Blanket" surname searches, especially for the common ones such as you indicate, are not usually a good idea. If your friend is new to genealogy, there are lots of good folk out here who are more than willing to help. Dick
For the 1850 census requests, I have access to Ancestry.com If I find the name, I'll type up what I can find unless there are too many then I'll just give first names and let you tell me which ones you want to know. Sometimes a name is shown but no one by that name is listed on the page, this might be because of a misinterpreted spelling etc. I can check again at a later date if you remind me. I can not type up everything I find because I have arthritis (I'm able to read it to you over the phone if you would rather. I don't mind, I just can't type for long periods. I am home all day usually-unemployed. I live near Chicago in Des Plaines, IL I'm not far from Jo Daviess County. Let me know if you want me to look up and read it to you.) Is there a census available online for the above date. She has a number of people in the JDC area that may be in that census. Please contact her directly at Sansu4023@aol.com with answers. She is also trying to trace COLEMAN, KIRKBY, ROUSE, AND VINCENT families.
I am trying to trace the Mahlon Coleman family. Anyone else out there. Mahlon married my second great grandmother's sister (Sarah Kirkby) and there were 4-5 children as far as I could tell. Another sister is listed as Eliza Miller, with a son Richard, but cant find a marriage so far. She was Eliza Kirkby before. Recently found these two on the probate for their mother. Never knew anything about them before. Also am tracing anyone related or married into the THODE, ROUSE, KIRKBY, VINCENT, SCHARFF, MENSING, SINCOCK, GEACH lines, as these are all direct family lines for me. Really, I am interested in all Jo Daviess geneo, as 1/2 of my ancestors came there from the old country. Susan

I suggested that she might be the sister of James Keely who was indeed 8 -years-old in the 1880 Census. It's occurred to me that this is much more likely to be Edith J. (Crowell) Keely, the WIFE of James Keely, who was also 8-years-old for the 1880 Census. Of course, that leaves the question "where is James Keely buried?" Steve Keeley

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Jg.2ADI/1312.1 Message Board Post: Ken, I have some Keely speculation that you might want to run past your incredible mother. Some researching turned up three Crowell sisters, Lillie M., Edith and Blanche F. In the 1880 Census for nearby Warren all three girls can be found living in the household of their parents, Marvin Levi and Kate (Stanchfield) Crowell. At that time they were aged respectively 10, 8 and 6. In 1891, (Edith would have been 19), we have a marriage record from Nora that states that an Edith Crowell married a James Keely there. Now then, if these two Edith Crowells were the same person, and James Keely & Edith Crowell produced a daughter, Kathryn Keely, who was later orphaned, then it would be natural to find this Kathryn in the care of her aunt, Edith Crowell's sister, Lillie Crowell, supposedly then living in Nora. And of course, that Kathryn Keely would have Crowell grandparents as well. A search in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census for a Lillie Crowell household might turn up your mystery Catherine Keely. As it turns out, in the Nora Cemetery there is an E. Kathryn Keely Roach (1900-1970). It could be that this is the same Keely girl. She would be a contemporary of your mother and one could imagine that she married a man, Roach, and as a result her maiden name is part of her name as it appears on her burial record. Interestingly, the cemetery listing suggests that she is buried next to three Keely individuals, a child, Clarence Crowell Keely (1892-1895) - (imaginably Kathryn's brother), an adult, Frank Dale Keely (1894-1961) - (imaginably another brother that was also orphaned and taken in by someone else), and a young woman, Edith Julia Keely (1872-1901) - (imaginably a sibling of Kathryn's proposed father James Keely, (but while he does have sister of that birthyear in the 1880 Census, unfortunately her name there is Rosa D. Keely)). (To wrap up this Keely family, the 1880 Nora Census shows this James Keeley living in the household of his parents Daniel and Harriet (unknown) Keeley. His siblings are: Delia F. - (probably married William E. McLennan in 1887), Leon F. - (probably married Edna B. Blackmore in 1894), and 8-year-old Rosa D. I'm unaware of who the ancestors are of this Daniel Keely family, (originally from Pennsylvania).) Please let us know if any of this sounds familiar to your mother. Good luck, Steve Keeley
