Hi, I am researching the Zachariah/Zachery Hughs/Hughes and Sarah Bain family and Moses Martin and his children by wife Elizabeth Carrico who died before Moses Martin and his family came to Jersey county. Zacariah Hughes is thought to have been born May 6, 1799 in North Carolina and died July 8, 1854 in Jersey County, Il. SArah Bain was born in Blount county, TN on October 5, 1803 the daughter of Daniel Bain and Sarah Ross. Zacariah and Sarah's daughter Lucinda Hughes married the son of Moses Martin. His name was Benjamin Vincent Martin. Benjamin vincent and Lucinda Hughes martin move to Texas about 1845-47. We have much information about them after that move. however, we know that Zacariah and Saran continued to live in Jersey county, Il and Lucinda had siblings. The 1850 census for Jersey ounty lists Zachery Hughes age 51 farmer and his wife SArah agd 47 with the following people in their household: John 20; Mary age 17; Zachariah age 10; George White age 5; Emily j. 3; Nicel age 40 cannot read or write (idiot); Soloman age 20, male. So we know that Lucinda had these siblings-what happened to them??? Did she have older siblings who had als married and left home by the 1850 census? There were also some Hughes who moved to the same area of Texas as teh Martin's is anyone knowledgable about other Hughes? Did Zachariah Hughes have brothers or other relatives who moved with him from North Carolina to Illinois. Any other Hughes reserachers on the Jersey county list? Thanks so much for any assistance.
