Smith, 42 TN Mahala Smith 41 NC, Minerva 16 TN, and George W. 14, Christopher C. 10, William J. 8 all b. IL. I can't find them on the 1860 Jersey or Montgomery Co. Census (some other Smiths in the area moved to Montgomery Co.). I'm trying to find out if this Christopher C. Smith is the same one who married in Washington Co IL in 1858.Thanks!
Did you look across the river in St. Charles Co., MO or one of the other nearby counties of MO? There was quite an epidemic of small pox in the confederate prison in Alton some where about this time, but there seems to have been a migration to MO from this area at this time as well. I don't know if or how the migration and the epidemic aer related, but it has been suggested to me that they were.
