    3. My understanding of tansy is that it is a wildflower that was collected for it's root and then the root was boiled for tea. It was used as medicine-I'm not sure for what ailment, but I suppose if it tasted bad you added a little liquor and had essentially what we might call a hot toddy. It may have been a Native American herbal medicine and the Europeans added the liquor.
