Greetings: DO NOT REPLY to this message. If you absolutely *must* discuss it, send me an e-mail, but make sure it is PRIVATE and *not* addressed to the list. I heartily dislike virus alerts, which is why I permit only myself to post them to any list I admin. Usually I take advantage of that restriction by not posting them myself, *either* [grin]. If your antivirus software is properly installed and configured, you don't need anyone telling you "delete such and such a file right away ..." If your AV software is *not* properly installed and configured, shame on you. You pose a risk to yourself and other e-mail users. I think the following is worth the rare exception. The so-called KLEZ worm/virus has a nasty habit of masquerading as an update to AV software. It will tell you to disable your AV program before you run it, so it can disinfect, or protect, your computer. The reason it gives is that it has to "pretend" to be the virus in order to be effective. *THIS IS SIMPLY A LIE -- IT'S NOT PRETENDING.* If you do what it says, you will be infected. You will deserve it, too, but I will still feel sorry for you and be willing to help if I can. Do not, ever, disable your AV software without checking your AV software vendor's web site to make sure it is the right thing to do. Either you will find the web site's "silence is deafening" -- or there will be a warning NOT to do the very thing you were going to ask about. I GUARANTEE IT. Remember, do not under *any* circumstances REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE, to the list address. Your cooperation is appreciated. Karima List Administrator PS, Thanks to Darrell Martin, a fellow list administrator, who has allowed me to use his excellent explanation above.
