Rather than write to Debbi directly, I am replying to the list to benefit myself and perhaps others. Yes, I thought that this might be the case - but, a Robert Beaty, Jr had been appointed administrator when the original executor died within a year of the passing of James Nelson. His son James P. had been chosen originally. Robert Beaty, Jr. was the husband of Annie Nelson Beaty an heir (daughter). The names of Myers and Snyder appear right before the mention of "and the unknown heirs of the deceased John Nelson." I know that James Nelson, Sr. had a son John - so obviously John died before 1872 and the passing of his father. I'm suspecting John Nelson died not in Jersey Co. but at some distant place and perhaps well before this time - or the "unknown heirs" would surely have come forward etc. By 1874, the widow is living in Hillsboro - maybe Myers abd Snyder were tennants at the Jerseyville property? You'll have to read the paper carefully to see what is said before and after the names. Sometimes you have to put punctuation in where there isn't any so that the sentences can be read as they were intended at the time.
