URGENT REQUEST!: Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address. Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is everyone's database. Each person is responsible for their own submissions. It is not copyrighted. Kathy [email protected] [email protected]

This is a bit of a long shot, but it might help. Sarah Fulton, widow pf one of the many Thomas Jefferson Fultons of MArion Co., IL married a Huff in MArion Co. They had several children. My gggrandfather and gggrandmother were married in Jersey Co., IL. When they died, their children ended up living with the Huffs. I was thinking that you might find a lead on your Huffs in Marion Co, especially around Iuka. I typed in Cummings and found 34 hits. Worth a try. There were two John Cummings, John T. and John W. in the 1880 census in Mississippi Township, Jersey County. There are many different hits. Just thought I would pass that on..Julie

Merry Christmas to all in Jerseylist land!! Is there someone out there who has available to them a census of Jersey Co. 1860,70,80 not picky....I need to know the state Elizabeth ANDREWS was born in. She would be in the house hold with Joel, her husband. Children with her would be John, William, Joel, Jr., Electra. Most of the time they lived in Rosedale. I am having a problem tracking this Elizabeth (Winchester) ANDREWS. All I have is her Maiden name and the state she was born in. MO. b. 1822+-. Her children say (on their marriage certificates) she was from Calhoun Co. I am hoping for a transposing error!! Thanks for any help. Or guidance!! MERRY CHRISTMAS GOD BLESS Dolores ANDREWS
Jersey County formed from Greene County 1839, several Gates families were in Greene County per1840 & 1850 census (sorry no Mary S). Also under land search found 4 Gates males buying land in that time frame. Samuel Gates owned land in both Jersey and Greene Counties he is listed as being from Madison County, IL. Does marriage license show where she was born? I would check surronding counties 1850 census looking for Gates familes, with a daughter about the right age. Her name is listed as Mary but in the census father might have used middle name or nickname.
