Hi Listers, Once again I "need" to post my "MYSTERY GRANNY" ELIZABETH J. WINCHESTER - lived in Jersey Co. from 1860 - 1905. Her children were- John ANDREWS/ANDROUS m. Alice Murphy William ANDREWS/ANDROUS m. Caroline Franz Joel, Jr. ANDREWS/ANDROUS m. Jane Cummings Electa ANDREWS/ANDROUS m. Grant Tucker, Carry Crocker Elizabeth says (on census info) that she was born in MO. and her parents were born in NC. Her children say (on death info and marriage info) Elizabeth was born in Calhoun Co. IL. ALSO Is there anyone who would have relatives coming from St. Clair/Macomb COs. Michigan 1840-50? My GGgrandfather was a RIVERMAN, who came from that area, before he married Elizabeth. Is there anyone out there who would have a connection to my GGgrandmother/or her family? Thanks for ANY help or guidance. Dolores ANDREWS

Am trying to connect the listed baptismal sponsors to the family. David Toomey and Julia Gibbons were listed as sponsors. Sarah's parents were Anna O'Malley Gibbons [1834, County Mayo, Ireland-1924, Audrain County, Missouri] and Patrick Gibbons [1831, South Carolina-1891, Audrain County, Missouri]. Her grandparents were Doctor William O'Malley and Mary Walsh O'Malley from County Mayo. Sarah's older brother, Thomas's baptismal sponsor on November 4, 1860, at the same church was Brigetta Kleins. Also trying to connect her to the same family.
Would love to hear from anyone that might be researching the Elliott line. Louis Elliott born 1805 in VA died 29 Sept 1865 in Kemper, IL. (Jersey County) Married Elizabeth Rhodes His Son, David Elliott born 20 Nov. 1831 Married 18543 in Jersey Co. to Nancy Reddish Died 1912 Thanks, Sue
Jemima (maiden name unknown) HUGHES was born 1810 in KY. She married Unknown HUGHES likely between 1830 and 1833. They produced four known children: Stewart HUGHES, b. about 1834 in IL William M. HUGHES, b. about 1836 in IL John Robert HUGHES, b. about 1838 in IL Lucinda A. HUGHES, b. 1 April 1841 in IL By 1847 Jemima and the children were living in Lamar Co., TX, but no male head of household was present. On 20 October 1861 after the children had left home, Jemima married George G. Keyes in Lamar Co., TX. Stewart disappears after the 1850 census. John Robert enlisted for Confederate service and died 15 June 1864 at a Union prison camp (Camp Morton) in Indianapolis, IN. Lucinda married William H. Burrous in 1859 in Lamar County; she died 7 February 1870 leaving her husband and two young sons. She was buried in Lamar County. William M. married and lived until about 1878; he left his wife Lucinda and four young sons. Jemima died in 1884 and was buried in Lamar County. In life Jemima had connections to Lucinda HUGHS Martin and John W. HUGHS. Both Lucinda and John had Jersey County connections, and John has been linked to Macoupin Co. as well. Did Jemima and her family live in one of these counties? Because the 1840 census lists only head of household, I have been unable to locate Jemima's family. Any suggestions--any help will be welcomed. Lorene Hughes Vanzant [email protected]
The following are listed on the census for Jersey Co., IL in 1850 in the household of Joseph Hawkins: *Joseph Hawkins 54 Farmer b. TN *Sarah Hawkins 26 b. IL *Matthew B. Hawkins 21 Farmer b. IL *John E. Hawkins 17 Farmer b. IL *Emiline Hawkins 1 b. IL *John Hughes 26 Farmer b. IL *Sarah Hughes 19 b. IL In 1860 John W. Hughes and Sarah Hughes are listed on the census for Lamar Co., TX along with sons Perry/Terry Hughes 7 b. IL; Josiah Hughes 4 b. IL Fannie J. Hughes 3 months b. TX; Emiline Hawkins, age 11 b. IL. According to this census, the John W. Hughes family is living next door to the following: *Jemima Hughes 50 b. KY *Robert Hughes 21 Farmer b. IL In the next house the following family is enumerated: *Vincent Martin 48 M MO *Lucinda (Hughs) Martin 37 F IL *Sarah E. Martin 17 F IL *Wm. F. Martin 14 M IL *Julia A. Martin 12 F TX *Zachariah Martin 10 M TX * John M.Martin 8 M TX * Mary J. Martin 6 F TX *Geo. W. B. Martin 4 M TX *Rhoda Martin 2 F TX We know that Lucinda Hughs Martin is the daughter of Zachariah/Zachary Hughs and Sarah Bain Hughes of Jersey County. Does anyone know how Jemima (maiden name unknown) Hughes and John W. Hughes connect to this family? Names of members of the three families are found on various probate documents as executors for each other's estates, but no relationship is listed. We know that Sarah Caroline Hawkins married John W. Hughs in Jersey County. We know that all the Illinois-born children of John W. Hughs were born in Macoupin County and that most of this family is buried there. However, there is a definite link to Jersey County. I would appreciate any information about Jemima, John W., Lucinda, and Zachariah Hughs/Hughes and their families. Information about other Jersey County HUGHES families will also be welcomed. Thanks. Lorene Hughes Vanzant

Sarah, Thank you for your concern in regard to Mr. Crull. I will take your information under advisement and will consider your evaluation of the situation at a more convenient time, however, I like Mr. Crull just the way he is.....He has been a great service to the Jersey County Historical Society and to the Jersey County Rootsweb Site. I take no offense to his warning.....I use his information freely, and gratefully. I am not a member of the various research groups for profit, but for contentment, and gratification. Mr. Crull earned his right to his declaration, because he acquired his information and documentation the hard way......by his own hard work and with the aid of his family members. Sarah, one does not have to be a professional to accept criticism, however criticism should be administered by a professional. Thank you Sarah for your time. Dolores Andrews
I fully agree with Ms. Andrews. I can not count the times that Marty has helped me. He spends numerous hours (volunteer) to provide information and to preserve the information regarding people and places in Jersey County. I was fully dismayed to see that he was not honored at the recent meeting. I do agree wholeheartedly that the men that did receive the honors deserved them. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Marty, Bob, and all who spend the numerous hours at the society. Thanks for your time! Julie
I agree as well, but I do not believe after one spend hours or going thru the records and pencil copy and then typing them and placing them out for everyone to share that another person has the right to right click and copy and paste and claim it as their work under the copyright laws. Sorry, but I will never agree with that point. Thanks for your comments. I will always accept well intended words whether agreeable or not. But this person does not know me and has no business as to "advising me." Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ig.2ADI/789 Message Board Post: IF you are researching via the Historical Society website, I must warn you about Marty Crull. On his site he claimed to possess copyright over all material on the site including items in the public domain. He believes that since he has researched the information, he then owns it and no one can use it for publication. Marty Crull is WRONG: He does NOT have ownership over census data, birth dates, public cemetery records etc. These are in the public domain. In fact, since Marty Crull is working FOR an organization, copyright belongs to his employers. When I wrote an email to Mr. Crull addressing these issues, he wrote back "Bite Me." and then has since sent two other letters telling me to BUTT OUT, that I have no right to contact him, that I have upset him. He also made some other rather rude and unprofessional remarks about my character. He seems to have my letter to other members of the historical society. One of these people wrote to me and indicated that I would have "trouble" over this incident. Mr. Crull, in my opinion, should not be working with the public. He cannot handle basic criticism. If any of you are members of the historical society, I urge you to address this issue with the Board. For those of you thinking of joining the Historical Society, I urge you to reconsider and let them know why you won't be joining. As someone who has been doing genealogy for 18 years, I am simply disgusted by the response of Marty Crull, his attitude towards copyright, the public, and other genealogists. I will be glad to send you copies of the letters if you request. Sara Kepich
