This George was born ca. 1844, his father was from KY and his mother from AL according to the census record. My George was born in 1846 in Jersey Co. and his father was from KY and his mother from TN. Interestingly, David Baugh and his family were in Montgomery Co., Litchfield Township on the 1860 Census, pg 92. My George is listed as Philemon on that census. Many of the Baugh family from Barren Co. KY moved into Illinois in the 1800 to 1840 period. The George you identify may have been a son or grandson of one of those individuals. Property records from Barren Co. identify George as one son of John Baugh Sr. and Rosannah Waters, the parents of several sons. Another son, John Baugh Jr. settled for a while in Jefferson Co. Il. Let me know if I may be of further assistance.

Surnames: BAUGH, ALLEN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ig.2ADI/802 Message Board Post: The mortality records for Jersey Co,1850 show that Elvira, Robert C. and Philemon Baugh died in 1849 and 1850. I have no information on Elvira or Robert C. but would like to find out if anyone has information on them. I don't know if they are related to Philemon. Philemon is my ggggrandfather; he lived in Barren Co. KY in 1810 and 1820. He moved to Hamilton Co. sometime after 1820 and married Keziah Allen on 11 April 1831 in Hamilton Co. IL where he appeared in the census in 1840. Sometime after 1840, Philemon, his wife (Keziah 60 and his son David 30, and his wife Nancy Gill 30 and children Elizabeth 9, Joseph 8, George 4, and twins Thomas 1 and Emily 1 (1850 census, Jersey Co)) moved to Jersey Co to farm. I am interested in any information anyone has on this family. Philemon was the brother of John Baugh, an early resident of Bond and Jefferson Counties, IL. David and his sons Joseph and George served in the Civil War. I will be happy to share any informat! ion that I have.

    2. Dear Karima, Thanks for the info but I had already looked at the IL State Library site and there aren't any newspaper microfilm rolls covering the dates I am looking for. So much of the other "stuff" I am researching hasn't been narrowed down to specific months or dates. I live in CA and microfilm rolls are not available for IL interlibrary loan out-of-state. That's why I tried your listing. I'm sure the information will help others and thank you for all your efforts to support our research. Best Regards, Rae Bryant

    3. Hello Rae, For a situation like this, if you know the exact (or very close) date of incidents which occurred in Illinois, such as deaths, accidents, marriages, etc., anything which would normally be included in a newspaper, I would suggest contacting the Illinois State Historical Library, which has a wonderful archive of Illinois Newspapers on microfilm. You can request that the library staff do a search for you. If they find the information you are seeking, they will send you a photocopy of the section of the newspaper in which the incidents are featured. For Illinois residents there is a non refundable copy fee of $1.00, which must accompany each letter. Each letter must be limited to no more than two (2) search requests. For Non Illinois Residents there is a non refundable fee of $10.00 per search. Each letter is limited to no more than four (4) search requests. [For example, if you wanted to include, with the inquiry regarding the lynching, the search for obituary notices, etc. at the same time - keeping the total number of inquiries to a maximum of 4]. Just be sure you can pinpoint the exact location and date (at least the month) of the events. Visit their web site and follow the instructions you will find there. The URL for Genealogical Research at the Illinois State Historical Library is: http://www.state.il.us/hpa/lib/default.htm Their snail mail address is: Illinois State Historical Library Old State Capitol Springfield, IL 62701 217/524-7216 Good luck, sounds like a very interesting story. If you find out something, please share it with us on the list.
