Marty, I do not have to have any specific surnames. If you want to you can send me whatever articles you want and I can type them up. I do not know how many I can do in a week...guess it mainly depends on how big they are....Anything that can help the society as the society has helped my search so much! Hi Marty, If you have OCR (optical character recognition) software with your scanner, and most scanners come with this software, you can scan the articles directly into your wordprocessor software. Hello list. Most may or may not know me from the Jersey County Historical Society. I am working on the Jersey County Cemetery database and I am going through a bunch of old newspapers and I am coming across many worthy news articles that need to be typed and placed in our files but they are also worthy of genealogical news to you family researchers as well. I am willing to scan, and scan only and email, what I find to those parties who would be willing to type them up and send me back a copy for our files. If you are interested, send me the surnames you would be willing to type for. Don't bother sending, Williams, James cause I will send only Williams. I will not pick out just certain ones. If you are willing to help, send me your name and email with a list of your surnames and I'll stick them in the ole computer and when I come across a news article I think would be of news worthiness, I'll send it to you. Thanks Marty send to [email protected] The Jersey County Historical Society http://www.618connect.com/~jchs/

I am in TN and was at the TN State Library and Archives yesterday. I found a John Winger in Jersey Co 1860 census in the index but the microfilm was so faded I couldn't make it out at all. Was wondering if anyone could look that up for me? I sure would appreciate it. Thanks so much Beckye
Found John Winger, 19 working for Jacob Lurton (Mississippi township). States he was born in Illinois. Also found Jacob Winger (Jersey Landing Precinct, Elsah), 47 born in Wertenburg, Germany with his wife, Mary, 40, also born Germany; John 19, born in Germany, Henry 14 born Germany, and Fred 11 born Germany. I imagine John at both places is the same person. Just happen to have my census book out. I normally don't do this. I may do a book later if enough people would be interested in buying one from the Jersey County Historical Society but too many irons in the fire right now. Surnames: Wines Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Ig.2ADI/811 Message Board Post: I would appreciate whoever volunteers to look-up items in the Jersey County 1860 census to check and see if Abner Wines is listed. He was listed as a farm hand in the 1850 Jersey County census and I would hope that if he was still living in Jersey County in 1860 he would be listed there also. The Wines home site of his father William and his brother Allen was in Greene County and they both appear in both the 1850 and the 1860 census in that county. Abner was the executor of his father, William Wines', estate but I haven't been able to find where he lived at the time. His father died in 1860. Help on this subject would be appreciated. Edward C. Wines, a direct descendant of Willam Wines the father of Abner
I've been told that microfilm doesn't fade. However various types of light used when microfilming plus the condition of the census records at the time when shot, the boldness of the ink and the hand pressure of the writer contribute to the final appearance of the microfilm. All microfilm copies are made from the same original shots, so what's in one state is the same in another. The only difference is the patience for someone to sit and look at an entry when trying to decipher what the entry is. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Does anyone know who the people in the rural areas sent their film too, to have it developed in the time period of 1945-1955? I have a photo I am trying to track down the place it was taken as it was sent to LaCrosse WI to be developed. Thanks for any help. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. If you think it was somewhere in Jersey Co IL, I'm sure Marty Crull wouldn't mind putting it on the Jersey County Historical Website for all to see and possibly help you to identify the location. Anyone on the list researching the POWERS family. Okay, Powers is like Smith or Miller, but we don't get to pick the surnames we are researching ;-) Specifically I am focused on Walter and Ellen McCarthy POWERS, Irish immigrants who lived just northwest of Fidelity from the mid-1880s until they died in 1897 and 1905, leaving ten children, some of whom were minors. In the Walter Powers estate papers, Ellen and a Patrick Powers signed the administrator's bond; he used and 'X'. Anybody familiar with this family, or whether they are in any way related to other Powers in Jersey County? Jane Lahey
I should clarify that there is no Gerdes as the head of a household in 1860 Jersey Co IL. The first record of a Gerdes as head of the household in Jersey Co IL appears in the 1870 census in Delhi Township. Debbi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
