Surnames: Marshaw Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Ig.2ADI/928.1.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: I have seen the name Marshaw, but I can't remember if it was at Elsah Cemetery or the Hartford Cemetery in Quarry Township. Next time I visit Elsah I will give a look. I will be visiting the Jerseyville library in the next week or so, and I will look up the obit on Marshaw if you like. I saw on the tri-countynews.net website where he died June 17, 1902.

Probate records seem to suggest their presence in the county in the early to mid 1800's. They may be my ggrandfather and ggrandmother. Will appreciate any assistance.

    3. Marty here is a poem I wrote in Oct 1995 It has been published ; Watch The Radio No TV when we were kids Lone Ranger was the thing Green Hornet and the Shadow On radio were kings We went to places every night We never thought we'd go Yes, we would sit and listen And watch the radio I don't know why we watched it To look back makes me smile There wasn't any thing to see Except the lit up dial I guess perhaps we sat real close To make sure we could hear The old tubes faded in and out It wasn't always clear But even after all this time I still don't really know Why,every time we listened We'd watch the Radio. written by Carol Walsh Oct,1995 published by the National Library of Poetry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "triconews" <triconews@irtc.net> To: <ILJERSEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 13, 2004 12:27 PM Subject: [ILJersey] Watching the Radio > Hi folks. 3. Hi folks. This is Marty Crull, again! The last project, Vacation Bible School didn't go over too well. So it's time to move on to the next project. This project is one that really touches the soul of my being because it brings back a wonderful, emotional memory of me and my grandfather, Ezra Crull. I call it Watching the Radio. Remembering when I'd set in grandpa's lap in the evening and listening to the radio. I can see the big high back chair he sat in, smell the Prince Albert burning in his pipe, see the red colored lamp on the end table and his telling me to hush so we could hear the stories of the Lone Ranger or Gunsmoke. God what a wonderful time I had. Let me know about your memories of "Watching the Radio". Marty

    3. I am looking for any information I can find on this lost soul. Here is what I know: Birth: Abt. 1840 (IRE - King or Queens Co - I think) Marriage: Cornelius Whalen, Jersey County, Dec 25, 1856 Death: Abt 1867-70 (Location Unknown Poss. Jerseyville area) Children: Mary Ann Whalen: Birth - September 01, 1858 Daniel Whalen: Birth - July 30, 1861 Thomas Whalen: Birth - January 10, 1867 I also know she appears with Cornelius in 1860 Census: WHEELER CORNELIUS 22 M W IREL IL JERSEY JERSEYVILLE PCT 1860 He was with Lizzie 20 and child Mary Ann, 1 Her Son Thomas Whalen's Obit said that she died when he was an infant. I believe during that time they would still have been in Jersey, However, I also have some information that shows an orphaned Thomas Whalen: There was also a Thomas Whalin, age 2, listed as an orphan in 1870, in Montgomery Co., IL. Which lend credibility to the fact that I was told that the father up and went out west at some point and left all his kids at a crossroads. If he was an orphan at that age in 1870 then his mother died maybe around 1867 - 1870ish. What I am looking for is any information on possibly where this woman is buried, how she died, anything at all. It is obvious by census records they were in Jersey in 1860s then possibly the youngest son was orphaned by his father sometime after the mother died. Any information on her, possibilities where they could have been buried or anything would be great. I think they lived in Jerseyville PCT, but I also have a baptism cert for Thomas that says something about fidelity/medora. Any help on her would be immensely appreciated. Mike McGough

    1. Summer Bible School
    2. triconews
    3. As the children are getting out of school for the summer, I am reminded that as we did we all ended up in Bible school. Which brings me to my next project and I remind you that I am going off the internet on the 30th so I need your responses back as as possible. I need to know if you went to Bible school, where and when was your very first time of attending. And what do you remember about it. I know mine was in Kane, Illinois at the Baptist church basement and it was in the early to mid 1950's and I was scared to death of those Baptist. I was a Methodist according to Grandma Crull and no good was to come of my going to a Baptist church. My mom was baptized Methodist and the Lord was surely going to have fit. But it all turned out okay. Please share. Marty
