Elsie Marie Tucker, 89, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:30 P.M. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Lavender Ridge Dignified Memory Care in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Elsie was born on Friday, June 6, 1924 in Bluford, Illinois the daughter of the late John Francis and Hattie Lena (Border) Callais. She married Robert E. “Bob” Tucker on December 28, 1949 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1996. Surviving family members include his daughter: Martha Skorczewski and husband Charles of Nashville, Illinois; 2 sons: William Tucker and wife Vanessa of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and John Tucker of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 5 grandchildren: Bryan Skorczewski of Edwardsville, Illinois, Robert Skorczewski of Edwardsville, Illinois, Sarah Kiliman and husband Daymon of Decatur, Illinois and Michael Tucker and Allison Tucker both of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister: Louise Sampson of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents, husband, three brothers: Muriel, Kenneth and Paul Callais, one sister: Betty Gilliam and a sister in infancy: Glenna Callais preceded her in death. Elsie was a Registered Nurse for 46 years, was a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Drives for several years, was an original co-founder of the Bargain Box resale store, was a very active member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, was a personal friend of Msgr. James P. Burke, was a member of Turner Roehm AMVETS Post 4 Auxiliary, was a member of the Don Lee Extension Center. FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Tracy Thomas will officiate. VISITATION: will be held from 3:00 P.M. to service time 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. INTERMENT: Burial of ashes will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois at a later date.
