    2. Laverne M. Bitner Oliver, 85, of Marion, Illinois, formerly of Mount Vernon passed away at 4:55 P.M. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Parkway Manor in Marion, Illinois.  She was born on Thursday, March 8, 1928 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Royce & Elsie (Heard) Kuykendall.  She married Arlen Bitner on August 12, 1944 in McLeansboro, Illinois and he preceded her in death in August 1995.  She married Kenneth Oliver on November 16, 2003 and he preceded her in death on November 13, 2012.      Laverne is survived by two sons: William Roy Bitner and wife Diana of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Arlen Lee Bitner and wife Patty of Fairfield, Illinois, four grandchildren:  Tammy Bitner of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Tracy Collings and husband Jeff of Mattoon, Illinois; Teri Russo and husband Joe of Woodlawn, Illinois; and Kimberly Conrad and husband Mike of Gilbert, Arizona, eight great grandchildren:  Cooper, Cayden, and Quincy Collings and Austin, Taylor, Jori, Madison and Remington Russo, two brothers:  Lonnie Kuykendall and wife Diana of Florissant, Missouri and William Kuykendall and wife Judy of Newberry, Florida, four stepchildren:  Kenneth Oliver and wife Cheryl of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Jeffrey Oliver and wife Stephanie of Vergennes, Illinois; Michael Oliver and wife Mary of Marietta, Georgia; and Lisa Capps and husband Neal of Opdyke, Illinois, several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. Her parents, both husbands, a daughter: Arlene Bitner, one son: Bryan Wade Bitner and two sisters: Jean Wagner and Vel Oglesby preceded her in death.   Laverne was an obstetrics nurse’s assistant a member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union of the church and she enjoyed crocheting and quilting.   Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Brother Jerry Montgomery officiating. INTERMENT: will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. VISITATION: will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, August 12, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois For those who wish, memorials may be given to Casey Avenue Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
