    2. Dial is the son of Joseph Edward Crosno and Ersila Ann Hodge. The Tribune, San Luis Obispo, CA, December 7, 2003 Dial Woodrow Crosno, 84, a native of Patterson, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in San Luis Obispo. He was a resident of San Luis Obispo county for the past 25 years. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. Dial served as an aircraft mechanic and pilot in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He worked as a skilled journeyman craftsman throughout his life and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. In his more active years, Dial was a scout leader, served as deacon in the First Christian Church of Glendora and also enjoyed square dancing. Dial is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dixie Crosno; son Dale Crosno and wife Sherrill; son Ray Crosno and wife Sandy; grandchildren, Kimberly Brewer, Wade Crosno, Nathan Crosno and Rebecca Crosno; great-grandson Ty Brewer; and siblings, Cleo Tucker, Harold Crosno, Joseph Crosno and Rosemary Whittemore. Dial is preceded in death by his sister Nova Grais. Arrangements are under the direction of Los Osos Valley Mortuary. She had been a resident of San Luis Obispo County for the past 30 years. Dixie graduated from the Portsmouth General Hospital School of Nursing in Portsmouth, Ohio, in 1941. She worked as a registered nurse and a school nurse while she continued her education. After she received her Life Time Teaching Credential she taught elementary school and special needs children. She met her future husband, Dial, in California during World War II. They married in 1943 while Dial was in a pilot training program and Dixie was working as a nurse. In 1948, they relocated from Illinois to Southern California to raise their two sons. Dixie is survived by her sons Dale (Sherrill) Crosno and Ray (Sandy) Crosno; grandchildren Kimberly Brewer, Wade Crosno, Nathan Crosno and Rebecca Prete; great-grandsons Ty Brewer and Alexander Crosno; great-granddaughters Kayla and Addison Crosno, Ella Crosno and Evelyn Prete; and siblings Delsie Horne, Earl Horne and Finis Horne. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dial Crosno; four sisters; and five brothers. Her family will say their final good-byes at a private celebration of her life.
