Doyle Clayton "D.C." Williams, age 80, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 6:00 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon following an 18 month stay at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center. Doyle was born in Jefferson County, IL on January 29, 1933 the son of Rolla Guy and Ora (Howard) Williams. He married Shirley Ann (Mills) on December 28, 1951 at the Bakerville Free Will Baptist Church in Bonnie and she survives in Mt. Vernon. He served his country in The National Guard and later the United States Army. They lived in Gary and Merrillville, Indiana for many years. He worked for Hostess Cake Co. and preached the gospel for many years. They later moved to Mt. Vernon where he worked for Continental General Tire until retirement. He continued to minister the gospel. He is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Shirley Ann Williams of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Michael Williams and wife Brenda of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and Timothy Williams and wife Anita of Spring Hill, Tennessee; daughter, Christy Dixon of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Jason Williams and wife Bessy, Derek Williams and wife Brandy, Brianna Williams and Brett Williams; step-grandchild, Rachel Goodman; great-grandchildren, Michael, Quinn and Jude; step-great-grandson Carson; mother-in-law, Beulah (Mills) Webb; special long time friends, Denny and Dorothy Hutton; nieces and nephews, Ilona Allen, Norma Williams, Larry Smith, Joyce Barrett, Joan Snyder, Theresa McFadden, Mike Sheehan, Jeanette McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents, stillborn son, Matthew; five brothers, Noble, Herman, Therman, Ernest and Rolla Williams; four sisters, Erma Campbell, Marie Jones, Opal L. Smith and Reva Sheehan; one nephew, Jim Campbell. A Celebration of Doyle Williams life will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. David Mays officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 -7 p.m. on Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Texico.
