Otto Gilbert Wilson, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 3:45 P.M. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.  He was born on Sunday, June 9, 1929 in Belle Rive, Illinois to Raymond and Vivian (Wilderman) Wilson.  He married Joan “Molly” Brittain on June 9, 1960 in Wiesbaden, Germany. Gilbert is survived by his wife:  Joan “Molly†Wilson of Mount Vernon, Illinois, four sons:  Norman Wilson and wife Jennifer of Providence, Kentucky; Raymond Wilson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; John Wilson and wife Mary of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and Michael Wilson and wife Lisa of Herrin, Illinois, two daughters:  Carol Ann Wilson and husband George of Berlin, Germany and Norma Fairchild and husband Mike of Charleston, South Carolina, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, brother:  Donald Wilson and wife Marian of Deltona, Florida, two sisters:  Lois Wilkerson of Belle Rive, Illinois and Lila Shelton and husband Jim of Dahlgren, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.  His parents, one brother: Murrel Wilson, one sister:  Betty Gentle, and one great granddaughter:  Cassie Bevins preceded him in death.   Gilbert served our country in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant until retirement. He then worked as a farmer with his brother and also for the L&N Railroad. Later he worked as a Prison Guard at Statesville Prison in Joliet, Illinois where he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post #141 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1376.  Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois MINISTER: Reverend Danny Wilson VISITATION: will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois INTERMENT: Cubb Prairie Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Members of the American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Hospice of the Good Samaritan or Cubb Prairie Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
