Author: zandz Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.jefferson/1604.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS - PHYLES LUCILLE COHEN SULLIVAN - Phyles Lucille Cohen, age 89, wife of the late Andy Cohen,and 66-year resident of Danville, Ill., died at 6 a.m. Monday, March 20,2006, at the Illinois Masonic Home, Sullivan, where she had resided since 1996. She was born on April 22, 1916, to Clella and Lula(Cundiff) Conner in Ina, Ill. She spent her early childhood on the Sentel farm in Arthur, Ill.(Clella also know as Jack Conner) She attended Danville High School. On May 30, 1936, she married Andy(Aaron L.) Cohen in Covington, Ind. They operated Square Deal Auto Supply Store for 40 years. Andy preceded her in death April 3, 1996. Her brother, Harold Halliday (George Delbert Conner), died later that same year. Her survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Richard Lohroff of Gardnerville, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Alice Green of Tyler, Texas, Isabelle and Daniel Frankel of Las Vegas and Barbara Spizman of Northbrook, Ill.; and brother-in-law, Jack and Betty Cohen of Las Vegas. Mrs. Cohen's four nieces, seven nephews and three cousins are scattered throughout the Midwest and western United States. She was employed by Musbach Shoe Company and Carson Pirie Scott Department Store. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, League of Women Voters and Danville Garden Club. She served as a troop leader for Edison School's Girl Scouts for eight years. She was a talented gardener, cook and piano player. She loved her family, friends, dogs and horses, often referring to them all as extraordinary. Celebration of life memorial for Phyles will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Illinois Masonic Home near Sullivan on Highway 122. Burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery near Watseka, Ill. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan, Ill., has taken care of the arrangements Notes: Harold M. Halliday was adopted about age 2, about 1920, and lived in Cairo IL. Clella (Jack) Conner was a cousin to Alva Fowler. Jack's mother, Ella, was a sister to Sam Fowler, Luther Monroe Fowler, Paralee Fowler Taylor,and Maggie Fowler Knowles, and a half sister to Eliza Fowler Roberts and Thomas Fowler.
