WHITTINGTON - Gladys Alene Bird Fowler passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, surrounded by her family.She was born on July 13, 1923, to Everett and Emma Bird of Whittington.She married Daniel Fowler on Dec. 31, 1949. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2008.Gladys was a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in rural Ina for many years. She was a pianist for the church for over 50 years. Gladys loved visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, crochet and cross-stitch.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one granddaughter, Leah Stone.She is survived by her children, Cathy (Randy) Stone of Black Mountain, N.C.; Carol (Dennis) Teague of St. Sebastien, France; Roy (Ronetta) Fowler of Bonnie; Darrell (Jeniffer) Fowler of Ewing; Karen (Stephen) Akright of Ina; grandchildren, Bethany (Austin) Brown, Jordan (Kennan) Stone, Lisette (Steven) Stone-Epps, Jered (Nolwenn) Teague, Joel (Lydie) Teague, Justin (fiancée Camille) Teague, Lindsay (Preston) Fowler, Chelsi Mayo, McClain (Robert) Lea, Clayton Fowler, Huston (Jordana) Fowler, Logan Fowler, Whittney (Billy) Hagene, Miki Belcher, Rachel (Jason) Dent, Joseph Droll, Stephanie (Eric) Plumb, Kendra (Steve) Hilmes; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Tinsley Brown, Eva and Alyssia Teague, Kaycen Mayo, Jersey Lea, Aidan and Aubrey Dent, Clara and Jack Plumb; brothers, Wendell (AJ) Bird of Arizona, and Leon (Rosalee) Bird of Decatur; and numerous nephews and nieces.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Free Will Baptist International Missions-Teague French Impact Project.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Johnston Funeral Home in Ina. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Ina. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will also be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
