Annabelle Cates, 89, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 11:07 P.M. on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Annabelle was born on Saturday, October 6, 1923 in Ashley, Illinois the daughter of the late Alva and Mae (McKenzie) Flanagan.  She married Cyril Delton Cates on September 8, 1940 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1983. Surviving family members include her daughter: Sue Ellen Stewart and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; son: Alvin Lee Cates and wife Sue of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; brother: Ronnie Flanagan and wife Nancy of Macomb, Illinois; daughter-in-law: Nita Cates of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents, husband, two sons: Cyril Dean and Jackie Cates; four brothers: Jack, Gene, Richard and Dorman Flanagan, a brother in infancy, two sisters: Gail Capps and Donna “Tiny” Flanagan and two grandsons: Randy and Eric Cates preceded her in death.    Annabelle was a homemaker, a member of the Protestant Faith and she loved playing Bingo.   FUNERAL SERVICES: will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 20, 2013 in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Reverend David Schlag will officiate. VISITATION: will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the service time 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 20, 2013 in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. INTERMENT: Mt.
