Grove, formerly of Mount Vernon, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Rose was born Thursday, Nov. 30, 1922, in Mount Vernon, to Gilbert and Lucy (Usselton) Page. She married Malcolm Hirons on May 5, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., and he preceded her in death Oct. 19, 2010. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Mr. J. Howard Kraps and Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the funeral home. Survivors include four children, James Hirons and wife, Karen, of Marion, Iowa; son-in-law, Neil "Rusty" Thompson of Herrin, Debra Mescher and husband, Steve of Princeton, Ind., Jill Lang and husband, Robert, of Hawthorn Woods, and Bonnie Jones and husband, Tony, of Panama City, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Stacy Baker and husband, Dan West, of Bloomfield Mich., Michael Hirons and wife, Leslie of Johnston, Iowa, Tom Hirons of Dike, Iowa, Alyson Nixon and husband, Scott, of Mahomet, Katie Bergthold and husband, Derek, of Siloam Springs, Ark., Christine Mescher of Tulsa, Okla., and Jennifer Lang of Hawthorn Woods; great-granddaughter, Rebekah and Joanna Baker of West Bloomfield, Mich., Annabel Hirons of Johnston Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Lorraine Miller and her daughter, Dr. Meda Kay Thompson. Rose ran a sawmill in West Frankfort, and worked at Mammoth Department Store in Mount Vernon before opening Rose's Garden of Style, ladies' ready to wear, downtown on the square in Mount Vernon. She was a Cub Scout den mother. She was president of Business and Professional Women, Summersville PTA and Jefferson County Republican Women. Rose was a charter member of Sweet Corn and Watermelon Festival, a recipient of the Lambert-Steffens Award through the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Jefferson County Crime Stoppers and Red Hat Society, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 233 of Mount Vernon, Auxiliary to Turner Roehm AMVETS Post 4 of Mount Vernon, a board member of the Christian Counseling and Family Services Center, a member of Lois Morse Guild and Central Christian Church.
