Jerry Thomas Farmer, age 65, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Jerry was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 19, 1948 the son of Melvin T. "Bill" Farmer and Ruth (Robling). He married Cindy (Ford) on August 29, 1969 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and she survives in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Farmer served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was retired. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Farmer of Mt. Vernon; mother, Ruth Heiderscheit of DuQuoin; daughter, Christena Farmer Bruce of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Jeffrey Farmer of Mt. Vernon and Wayne Winkles and wife Angie of Winfield, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Jacob Bruce, Holley Bruce, Eric Bruce, Mercedez Farmer, Noah Farmer, Summer Winkles and Sailor Winkles; and also a sister, Judy Rogers and husband Cassell of Valier, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Farmer, and step-father, Pete Heiderscheit. Funeral services for Jerry Farmer will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Newell Funeral home in Mt. Vernon with Brother Frank Senter officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held at Newell Funeral Home in Mt.
