Barbara B. Kaminski, 101, of Mount Vernon and formerly of rural Ashley passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 10:15 P.M. at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Barbara was born Saturday, December 2, 1911 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Belter) Kasban. The family greatly enjoyed their life in Saint Louis where her father was a supervisor for Union Electric. Health concerns caused the family to return to Radom in southern Illinois where Barbara was confirmed in the Catholic faith in Saint Michael Church in Radom, Illinois. Barbara married Joseph J. Kaminski on February 27, 1933 at Saint Michael Church in Radom. Together they successfully operated a grain and cattle farm in rural Ashley for more than 30 years until her husband died on September 24, 1963. Barbara is survived by her half-brother, Frank Kasban and wife Mary Ann of Radom, her half-sister, Eleanor Hudson of Henderson, Nevada, and stepbrother: George Novak and wife Noma of St. Louis, Mo. Barbara is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, to whom she was deeply devoted, and was very proud of their accomplishments. Barbara’s husband, infant daughter Barbara Joan, parents, sisters Lucille Kasban, Gertrude Broviak, Bernice Costley, brother Eugene Kasban, stepbrothers Eddie Novak and Stanley Novak, dear nieces Janet (Costley) Davis, Barbara (Costley) Williams, and great nephews James Owen Williams and Joshua Davis all preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Radom, Illinois with Father Robert Zwilling officiating. Interment will follow at Saint Michael Cemetery in Radom, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 with a Holy Rosary held at 7:30 P.M., and 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 1, 2013 until Mass time at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Radom, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Saint Michael Cemetery in Radom, Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, took her faith very seriously, and tried to spiritually influence those around her.
