Unnamed newspaper (prob. a Sesser paper) dated 31 March 1949 “Obituary of James Daniel ISOM James Daniel ISOM was born the son of J. P. and Adaline (Fore) ISOM on August 13, 1871 in Meigs County, Tenn. and departed this life on March 22, 1949 at 4 p.m. at his home 2 1/2 miles north of Sesser at the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 9 days. At about the age of 14 he moved with his parents to Illinois and settled on a farm in Horse Prairie, the southern part of Jefferson County. He made Horse Prairie and the surrounding community his home ever since. On the fourth of September, 1898, he was united in marriage with Mabel GRAHAM of Franklin County. To this union no children were born but no woman was ever blessed with a truer or nobler husband. He was of a family of eleven children, all of whom lived to man and womanhood except one little girl who died in the tender years of childhood. Preceding him in death are two brothers, Mack and Bill ISOM and two other sisters, Arizona ISOM and Oakey SHINGLETON. Also preceding him in death was his aged father and mother. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Mabel, two brothers, John ISOM of Kinkaid, Ill., and Ben ISOM of Chicago, Ill.; Three sisters, Mrs. Agnes DENNIS of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Mrs. Annie SHERIFF and Mrs. Allie BLYTHE of Sesser, Ill. He leaves also to mourn his passing two nieces, Neva Jean DYCUS of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Ileta Fay LEDBETTER of Hutchison, Kansas whom he took into his home and raised as his own children, also a host of other relatives and friends. In the fall of 1904 he professed his faith in God and joined the Horse Prairie Baptist Church one year later. He remained a member of this same church until his death. DuQuoin Evening Call, undated but probably Nov. 1967 "Dewey ISOM Unexpectedly Dies at 69; Burial will be at Maple Hill Dewey ISOM, 69, a retired Sesser miner, died Tuesday at 12 a.m. at Miner's Hospital in Christopher. His death was unexpected. The deceased was born in Franklin county May 10, 1898, the son of James and Ollie (Veach) ISOM, deceased He has been a resident of the Sesser area all of his life. ISOM was married to the former Ora PITCHFORD for 49 years. Funeral services begin at 2 p.m. Friday in Brayfield Funeral Home in Sesser. Rev. Bobbie CARDEN of Hazel Dell Freewill Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Survivors include a son, James ISOM, Sesser; two sisters, Grace DAVIS, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Gertrude SMITH, Hollywood, Fla. A daughter, Beulah, preceded him in death. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kay and Carol ISOM of Sesser.
