Audrey Joy Smith, age 91, of Mount Vernon, IL, died at the Clark County Health Care Center, in Owen , WI , on Monday, October 14, 2013. Audrey Joy Thomas was born on August 14, 1922 in Calhoun, WI, the daughter of Walter E. and Agnes E. (Luhrsen) Thomas. She was raised and received her education in East Troy , WI , graduating from East Troy High School in 1940. Audrey then attended Rosary College for one year in River Forest , IL . She was united in marriage to Albert W. Smith on March 22, 1942 in Des Plaines, IL . They moved to River Grove , IL where Audrey was a homemaker and raised five children. After retiring in 1978, they moved to Mount Vernon , IL , where she lived until moving to Wisconsin in 2008. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Women's Club, was active in the River Grove, IL PTA, and was an active member in her church. Audrey had many interests, but especially enjoyed playing organ, crocheting, traveling, gardening, and cats. She is survived by her five children: Thomas "T.R." Smith (fiancé Lynda Fernow) of Maple Park, IL, Beverly (Gary) Carpenter of Clarkston, WA, Barbara (Dix) Fulton of Issaquah, WA, Judy (John) Barrett of Loyal, WI, Richard (Lucille) Smith of Elgin, IL; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, on November 11, 2001; five brothers: Glenn, Doug, Marshall, Jim and Roger Thomas; and one sister: Beatrice Thomas. Funeral services for Audrey Joy Smith will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Bill Causer officiating. Interment will follow at Atkinson Cemetery in rural Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
